Those are great, thanks. I may have to re-do the serials beginning in "40", removing the ones without pictures as these batches used both upper and lower case letters, and I don't think people always type the correct case.

SMS Power Base PAL-G Bought in Norway in 1990 Model no: 3005-06-B Serial no: 40b87712 View AttachmentSEGA MASTER SYSTEM/Power Base Model No.: 3010 Serial No.: 56158348 BIOS: 1.3 Country: USA SEGA MASTER SYSTEM/Power Base Model No.: 3010 Serial No.: 56166678 BIOS: 1.3 Country: USA Thanks for these. The Norwegian one is interesting. SMS released in Sweden about the same time as Spain, but in the service manual (I think from around 1987/8) there is no mention of a region code for Sweden (Spain is "06"). There is a Nordic region code ("24") seen in models starting from 1990, so maybe from 1987-1990 Nordic SMS were the same specification (and model numbers) as Spanish ones. New model number/region code discovery "3006-21" from the United Arab Emirates.I suspect the same code was used for all PAL-G GCC countries (Saudi Arabia was NTSC "3006-39"). Also, another mystery one "3005-10-D". This one showed up in Germany, near the Swiss and Austrian borders. My current theory is that "25" was the region code for PAL-G areas of Switzerland (I recently came across one from there), "26" the region code for French cantons of Switzerland (Romandy) ... they would have French TVs there. And possibly "10" was the region code for Austria. Unfortunately I have very few serials from Switzerland and Austria to confirm. Edit: Just came across another SMS1 model number "3005-25-B" in Switzerland, so I'm now pretty confident that "25" was the region code for the "PAL-G" areas of Switzerland.

It was also the last 3D game to get released (around the middle of 1989, despite having a 1988 copyright). Not long after they discontinued the 3D glasses.

So, in the first half of 1987, when PAL SMS games were still English only, SMS released in Spain. It was only a brief period of time before the games went multi-lingual later that year, so English only variants in Spain are quite rare. Still, launch consoles (should be model "3010-06") with Hang On included came with an English only manual (presumably no box) and additional Spanish instructions. It's possible that the other early English only games also included additional Spanish instructions, but this is the only one that I've seen so far. It's not completely clear, but the week code on the card looks like it might be "8714" (Beginning of April 1987). I've also come across another early SMS console model "3010-07" , this was for South East Asia (PAL-B). All of the ones that I've seen so far were in Indonesia, but I suspect that it was also sold in Singapore. Attachments;

I think I have nearly enough US & JP numbers for a good estimation of those markets, but more numbers make it more accurate! Would appreciate any more numbers before I make an analysis of JP & US numbers in the next few days!

Well, it was quite a long time ago, so that's understandable I guess that 2001 press release must have just been for Toys R Us, with it being available in other stores earlier. They then showed up a year later in the UK, thanks for looking that up. As flatapex pointed out, EB was initially just a rebranding of Future Zone, so it doesn't really narrow it down too much apart from 1991 or later.

Thanks, are you sure that it was Electronics Boutique? The Wikipedia page says that they entered the UK in 1995 (Electronics Boutique UK was registered 31 Jul 1995), and I'd say that aligns with with my memory of it in my city, but they could have been in London or elsewhere before they came here. If so then that pushes the date right back to the end of the SMSs' life. Majesco didn't release the GG until 2001, so I guess that those must have been offloaded in the UK a bit later, or maybe even close to release.
