I don't know if anyone got to the bottom of this (Looks like a really old thread) but I came across a black and white instruction manual for Tom & Jerry (Genuine) It's a double sided A4 size pull-out manual very similar to the pack-in instructions for Sonic The Hedgehog. Assuming that this is a pack-in game for the SMSII, can anyone confirm that they have a console with this as a pack in game? I tried looking on Sega retro but couldn't find one. Attachments:

It could be an Australian manual. I believe many games were released with this A4 format manual down under. I am not aware of any console pack that included Tom and Jerry.

I have similar black & white fold-out manuals for Master Games I. I asked about it on the forum when I bought it, but don't think anyone ever came up with an answer.

I know what you mean about a lot of the Australian manuals being of the fold out type (This was my first thought too) but as you can see from the attached image of an Australian manual there are big differences such as the colour, the letters MS after the Sega Logo and to my limited knowledge most manuals / carts / boxes say made / printed in Australia (On the back of manuals under / next to the Sega Logo)It's interesting that other games not known to be pack-in with consoles seem to have this variant with the manuals such as Master Games 1. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from now on. Attachments:

Yeah the lack of any ® or 'sm' 'ms' does seem odd to me. The color or lack of seems strange too, but I have seen black and white ones before. You would think if it was a photocopy all the markings would be there. I never looked that close to see if they had any "printed in Australia" info though. I'll keep my eyes open for it from now on. Good luck figuring it out.

has anyone thought it could be related to rental games?

I think all my ozisoft fold out manauls have Austrlalia mentioned on the back. This is a bit more like a pack in style like Sonic or Master Games 1.. Could be a rental like flatapex says, that is the most likely actually as this is the only one anyone seems to have seen before for this game.

I checked my sonic manuals, my pack in is normal apart from being black and white and printed in Thailand, my sonic 1 boxed copy is dark blue and white and printed in japan.
When I get chance I will take a picture of the instructions from an ex rental normy's beach babe o rama on md, bought in a battered vhs box lol

I have no clue, but as retrokevretro said it looks very similar to the pack-in instructions for Sonic. The paper is slightly glossy, is Tom & Jerry the same?

Yes, I have the Sonic Pack-in manual too and in comparison the paper (slightly glossy) and style is identical. With regards to these being ex-rental manuals, I can't really see it. They are in too good a condition. I remember renting SMS games back in the day, the cart and manuals were always in a poor state and assuming that the cart is original to the instructions there is none of the usual identifying marks or sticker residue. The instructions are in English only so were obviously meant for an English territory. The games (Tom and Jerry and Master Games 1) were never released in North America / Canada which just leaves the UK and Australia and as the manuals are produced in a style known to be common to Australia then maybe they were printed there? That being said, Master Games 1 was never released in Australia so that theory doesn't really hold either!

It would be nice if one of you came up with a list of all of the ones found like this and the paper quality, that would help in tracking down anything. I did a ton of eBay research to figure out the blue reissues in the US (Out Run, Rambo, etc.).
