Due to the way the game works, I don't think 2 player would really have been possible. It's not a case of too much flicker, which is probably the reason for Streets of Rage lacking the second player option.

Death Chase from the Spectrum, its a simple but really fun game. It could have even worked well with the 3D glasses. I really enjoy Road Fighter on the MSX, an expanded sms version with more features would have been awesome. In fact a few years ago we planned a game partly inspired by Road Fighter. All the graphics were done, but sadly the code never got passed an early prototype stage, and to be fair it was probably all a bit too ambitious. www.smspower.org/Homebrew/RentalCar-SMSWhile theres a lot of big name Nes games, I'd probably chose something a bit under the radar, Wild Gunmen. Again its a pretty simple game, but I enjoy playing it, and it would benefit from the sms colour palette and superior light gun.

Line of Fire is a nice little game, and if you have the 3D glasses then I'd recommend it as it really makes great use of the effect.
Mortal Kombat is a good port on the SMS, its a bit choppy due to the way it works (think Golden Axe), but the game play is there. I'd say its between MK1 and MOC for best fighter on the console, Masters of Combat would win that contest if it had a bit more content.

Was looking through my box of spare games and it seems I have two copies of Laser Ghost . One with the light phaser printed on the cover and one with a light phaser sticker . I wonder what reason they had for changing the artwork ? I like both , in fact it's one of my favourites on the system . Sega did multiple runs of the same game if they sold well enough and particularly if they had developed it themselves. I guess they just redid the cover to match the later style, and it would have been easier to have an insert with the light phaser box printed on it rather than having to put stickers on every time.

Its a shame that Operation Wolf doesn't work on an NTSC system properly or even in PAL 60hz (I still don't quite understand how it manages to play on a Tectoy console). It's such a great game, and the best home port.
James Pond 2 is a good game, and the sms port is really well done, not lacking much in comparison to the 16bit original. Much like other European developed platformers such as Zool, it looks great but it never really quite matches the quality of Japanese made platform games for level design/controls etc.

Keep in mind not all Euro games work perfectly on an NTSC system - www.smspower.org/forums/12093-ListOfIncompatibilitiesAmongSMSGamesHardwareI'd avoid Running Battle, (I like it, but in a strange appreciation for how rough it is), Robocop Vs Terminator is a great run and gun game and a far better choice. Most TecToy games aren't too wonderful, Dynamite Headdy is an exception being a game intended for Euro release rather than a Game Gear hack I believe.

When I looked I saw rrp prices of 4 to 5k, a crazy amount for a TV that would be out of fashion so quickly. Have you got any charity shops nearby that sell furniture and things? I got a Sony trinitron from one near me last year. EBay is worth a look searching by distance. I'm tempted to get another CRT myself while it's still possible to buy a top of the range one cheaply.

The issue is probbaly the refresh rate, if its 100hz which later upmarket CRT TVs often are then traditional light guns won't work. I had a quick look and it seems that B&O TV is 100hz too. I think you'd have more luck looking for a 4:3 CRT instead of a widescreen one, as they are much less likely to be 100hz and have a better spect ratio for retro consoles too.

I love the idea of this, definitely the best way to remake an old game. Ironically I don't have anything modern enough to play it.

Ive never played sonic 2 on the megadrive.. I think ill have to give it a go! I always remember buying quackshot on the megadrive on a dual cart with castle of illusion and the graphics blew me away. I still prefer the sms mickey though.. Thats a gaming oversight! Its such a great game, when Sonic was at its best before the ever increasing character roster and various gimmicks starting ruining things.

I don't think of the super scaling arcade games are that much better on the Megadrive as it doesn't have hardware sprite scaling to fully do them justice. They do look better, but the choppy frame rate is still there, not as bad as on the SMS obviously but not the leap ahead in quality it could/should have been.

Another quality video, I always find them entertaining. The game was released yet again a year later As George Foremans KO Boxing, a mere year later. This time 'developed' by Flying Edge aka Acclaim, a bit of a strange release, and I bet anyone unlucky enough to have bought both Heavyweight Champ and George Foreman would have been really disappointed. Rather an odd move by Sega to let that happen, unless perhaps Acclaim hacked Heavyweight Champ without them knowing?
