The art style really puts me off this one, is it particularly noticeable in-game? I have pretty much all the other classic-styled shmups on the 360 (that'll play on a PAL machine anyway) but I'm not especially comfortable with the loli stuff Japan often comes out with. In-game it isn't noticable at all. The levels have a medieval/fantasy feel to them. Definitely give it a go. I also picked up Akai Katana but haven't tried it yet. I'm getting quite into my shmups at the moment. Are there any others you'd recommend? Cool, I'll give it a shot at some point - backlog of RPGs and open world action from xmas to get through first though! Akai Katana is brilliant if you play Slash mode. The Original and Climax modes have really convoluted scoring systems that aren't very fun, whereas Slash is straightforward and mostly based around unleashing hellish streams of firepower. As for recommendations on the 360: If you like the Cave style games, Dodonpachi Resurrection (PAL), Dodonpachi Saidaioujou and Mushihimesama Futari (both Japanese but region free) are all solid bets. Saidaioujou has a lot of varied modes/options and quite a tough novice mode, but Futari is the better core game in my opinion. I highly recommend Shooting Love 10th Anniversary, which features two games from tiny developer Triangle Service - DeltaZeal (a touched up version of obscure arcade game G-Stream 2020) and XIIZeal (port of XIIStag, released on PS2). Both are fairly old school shooters and have loads of neat little easter egg stage sections/enemy patterns, based on how quickly you kill certain enemies/waves. Japanese but region free. Another good one more in the old school style is Under Defeat HD, previously a Dreamcast exclusive port. It looks fantastic and is more Raiden-style than typical bullet hell. There's a PAL release for this one. Eschatos and Ginga Force (you can get them packed in together) are fairly unique and worth looking into. Eschatos is bundled with ports for two obscure Bandai WonderSwan shmups, which is a nice touch. Have a nose on youtube first though, they're not necessarily everyone's cup of tea because they're a bit different. Both region free Japanese. Check out Twin Tiger Shark on the indie games service, it's a really well done homage to Toaplan's early shmups (Flying Shark, Twin Cobra, Fire Shark and Twin Hawk).

I've not played it yet but i've just downloaded Pier Solar on my PS4. I bought the posterity edition back before it was released as I thought it looked like a good thing to support but I've never actually played it. Now I can give the thing a go. I've never really managed to get in to any RPGs but ive always thought I should. Hopefully this one will do it for me

It´s a nice story with many beautiful areas and a unique ending. I thought about that ending for some time because it´s captivating and dramatic at the same time. The music is great too, I have the soundtrack at home

Probably shouldn't be saying this on a SEGA forum, but I've been playing a ton of Wii U this generation. Nintendo really killed it this year, they put out so many great first party games while the other platforms were languishing without quality titles. Pikmin 3, Captain Toad, Donkey Kong Country, NES Remix...I've been doing more Nintendo gaming this year than any other year that I can remember. Great to see them doing so well.

My PS4 is literally gathering dust. Haven't touched it in about 3 or 4 months. If I had first bought the WiiU instead of the other way round, I doubt if I had picked up the PS4 at all. HD ports of PS3 engine builds are not what I call "next gen" Smash, mariokart, windwaker, wonderful 101 and as of yesterday; Captain Toad have been taking up all my gaming time. I kinda wanted to see them fail when the WiiU first came out (horrible name marketing-wise) but when I see how little original content the "true" dudebro next gen systems are putting out, I'm glad I have it. So many great games to look forward to this year as well. But Shadow of Mordor was pretty bad-ass, I have to admit

Bioshock Infinite and what a beautiful game it is. The setting is amazing: 1912 but in a City high above the clouds which is supposed to be a utopian paradise while in reality it's a borked up dystopian place with an insane leader and i have to say i'm amazed what big balls Irrational Games showed in this day and age: little kids smoking, showing christian religion in a negative light, racist posters and racism everywhere, basically holding a mirror in front of what the USA really are and insane violence on top of that coupled with great characters and a thought-provoking story

Xtreme Express: World Grand Prix (PS2) - Highly addictive racing game with trains. You can unlock tons of trains in the game while playing Grand Prix mode and Tour mode. You will collide with other trains during a crossover, you will derail, drive by night, rain and heavy fog.. The tracks are great, there is a long coastline, a subway and more.. It´s easy to play it for hours, time is going by very fast then! Plus, it´s unique.
