Just checked, it's the top one I have View AttachmentIt doesn't look to bad in the photo but if you have it side by side to every other Tectoy cover I have, it just looks blurry and the print quality definitely isn't the same. The red text above the logos is almost impossible to read, but like I said before the paper quality is excellent, maybe it was a bad batch that was printed? It could just be your photo, lighting and genuine wear.... But to me that looks like a print out of the top scan in my previous post. The damage and shadows around the spine area all look consistent.

You've just hit the nail on the head, it has the exact same damage as the top scan, that settles it, it's fake. I paid around £35 for it, hopefully I'll get the money back with the sale of the cart.

hey if anyone wants an Australian Wolfchild let me know, you can have if free, will save me binning it. its one of the new and sealed copies from italy. I'm not convinced its legit . I'm only going for a full uk set, I just got this to test the water with these new and sealed games before I buy the more valuable titles. If you got it from the same seller off Ebay as mine came from, they are definitely legit. I wish I had kept mine sealed, but the box size, inlay, manual and cart all seem spot on for an Australian game. I emailed the seller and he's changed the listing on ebay to say it is the Ozisoft version with just a English printed sheet for a manual.

It's legit - just an Ozisoft release as has been said many times already.

This discussion does raise an interesting question in particular about Smurfs 2.... how do we know the original "discovery" was actually legit? With the right sort of paper and printing which wouldn't cost much the guy who found that crate could recreate them. I know someone mentioned the chips having Sega printed on them but you can pretty much get anything like that done over in China these days for a few grand by all accounts. Isn't there another way to see if they are okay?
Those games were selling around 4-500 when they were released into the wild so a few thousand to get decent copies done could be a good investment! Or am I just being too suspicious!

It would be a lot of trouble to go to. Other components (capacitors) are probably impossible to get in the exact vintage style, but I am not an expert. The mask ROMs with built in mappers would be tens of thousands to make.

Wouldn't they be cheap parts anyway seeing as they were made so long ago? Most are only small boards with a few bits n bobs on. You can still buy new games today in small batches for things liek the NES and SNES which are new for special occasions. With Smurfs 2 the guy wouldn't have had to sell many to make his money back so seems like a good gamble to take on a crate full.

Where can I buy electronic components from the 90s which are made in their millions today, and degrade over time? Much easier to use new ones.
To make new cartridge boards is not too expensive. To make them look like 90s originals from the outside would be a small extra step (match the substrate colour, get the chamfering right - I think the FR4 material hasn't changed). To make them indistinguishable on the inside, by using exactly the same circuit board layout, would be fairly easy. Getting a fake-marked chip with a built-in mapper capability would be really hard and probably expensive (custom chips, not externally programmed chips like flash or CPLDs). Making new cartridge shells would also be expensive, but they can be obtained from new-old stock.
The reality is that, like the Smurfs 2 above, the state of the art for reproductions is still to kill a new-old game with a separate mapper chip, and it's really hard to do that without it being obvious to the naked eye. Since so few will open the cartridge, it makes more sense to be less shoddy with the paper materials (stickers and manual), which could be better faked for a lot less money.

The most disappointing thing is that it's a member of this forum that is selling these fake Smurfs 2 and other crappy "repros" on eBay.

Welcome to 21st century video game collecting!
Neo Geo has this same problem, and I wouldn't be surprised to see if its an issue with basically any high dollar collectible.

As long as this member is not trying to pass the games off as originals, I don't see a problem. For some collectors (such as myself) that are not after a complete PAL collection, it makes sense to buy repos. I do not own any myself, but plan to purchase a copy of Power Strike 2 someday. I'm not into using emulators so its the only alternative to spending $75+. Just my two cents ; )
