I recognize the ending music to this game but can't think what it's from, and what is it that getafix is addicted to? This game has great graphics and animation but in terms of gameplay i'm not so mad on it as much as everyone else seems to be.I think it's a decent enough platformer but not great like castle/land of illusion or sonic.I found the game to get boring eventually,I completed it once and tried to play it through again but couldn't bring myself to do it,maybe it's a bit slow and not too many varied end of level bosses to kill. Great sound, looks and bonus levels, but too easy and not much to keep you coming back.

To me Asterix is the 4th better SMS plantformer: 1.Sonic 2 2.Land of Illusion 3.Sonic 4.Asterix 5.Asterix & the Great Rescue
(i like Castle of Illusion, but believe it was surpassed by the games mentioned above, just like the Donald DuckĀ“s games)

I've had a good crack tonight, and got to Round 6-1 before by ruining it by hitting Reset instead of Pause. D'oh! Since everyone's mentioned the ending I'll have another go on Wednesday when I've got the day off and run all the way through. It strikes me as pretty standard European-developed platform fair, really - looks, moves and plays nicely, but is missing some of the depth and inventiveness of it's Japanese bretheren.

My brother and I must have hired Asterix out for 3-day-hire for about a month solid. We loved it!! I recently got it of eBay and immmediately began playing it. 6hrs later I finished it!!!! And the pure joyous de-je-vou that accompanied playing the whole game... the music at the "choose your player" bits.. awesome.
Although since it took me so long with so frequent deaths I can only assume I didnt collect enough bones by the stage end to go on to the bonus level... I dont have the manual for it so I didnt know. I did remember about throwing the potions and such though...
Truly an awesome platform game.

The girlfriend was looking for something to play and picked this out of the pile. What a nice game. We only got about half way through it, but I was really digging how you could be the two different characters and how the levels would change accordingly. Considering there are 22 levels, that's a lot of programming! There are some bits of slow down, but it's more than forgiven considering all the nice animation all the characters get. The programming is also top notch, in the way the skills you're required to do are always first introduced as optional perks before becoming mandatory. Same thing with the difficulty, it's always a nice and fair progression that rewards the gamer's increased skill set as the game progresses rather than forcing cheap kills or curve balls.
I'm excited to go through and see this epic ending.

I didnt have this back in the day but I do remember when it came out. It was considered to be an excellent - Highly acclaimed game. I can't ever imagine that happening now with a cartoon licence.
I really need to give this some more of my time as I love platformers and this does look great.

So the girlfriend and I really took at this on Wednesday and finished it. A pretty textbook example of a solid platformer. Each level had a different strategy and required a new technique to complete, whether you were jumping on moving pillars on one or creating platforms to walk over water on the next. No level ever felt like repetition, and as a result the whole 8 worlds flew by.
My gripe with the game though? What happened to the bosses? It starts off great with mini-bosses after each level, each one different and in the case of the three guys popping up from below at a time it's actually pretty fresh. But then once you get a few worlds in...nothing. It doesn't help that the whole finale is anti-climactic, since level 7-3 is a very tough endurance round, and then 8-1 is a slow, easy horse ride to the finish. You think "okay, a decent way to establish the Rome setting of world 8...bring on rounds 2 and 3!" But no. That's it. So not only does the game end on the first level of World 8 when the rest of the worlds have 3 levels, but to add insult to injury there isn't even a final boss. And it's dead easy. Talk about dropping the ball in the home stretch!
The final cut scene was okay...I was expecting more story considering how much is given at the start and before each world.
What I'll take out of this most, though, is that there's now another quality platformer series on the Master System for me to explore. That's great, considering how spoiled I already felt with the Alex Kidds, Wonder Boys, Sonics and Mickey Mouses (Mice?). So the first sequel is again made in Japan by the same developers but the final installment was made in Europe? These are next on the to-buy list!

Did you ever play the TecToy TV Colosso hack of it? It's probably their most impressive hack and worth a look if you like this one overall. I have the same opinion as you, in general. It seems the game could have been fleshed out just a bit more, but overall it's quite solid. It was one of the first PAL games I picked up, and after seeing what the SMS was capable of, I started to stockpile em.

After I finish up my Euro collection (36 to go!) I'll likely try to pickup the Tec Toy exclusives, too, so then I'll definitely look for that one. I'm still waiting on getting the two sequels, even if they aren't supposed to be as good.

TV Colosso is a hack of Asterix and the Secret Mission, not the first Asterix game. It is a quality hack, although playing as Asterix and Obelix is always going to be better.
