Collecting for the sms is in my experience easier than the other console's I collect for You got less games to collect and maybe a dozen or so that sell for 100 quid or more , plus the games can be found in excellent condition . I bought the vast bulk of my games in bundles , I perhaps paid full buy it now ebay price on 30 games and got a full pal set in about 3 years .
I can't get the same deals on other consoles , I've resorted to buying cheap xbox and ps3 games and trading them in to Cex , but it's always a lottery with them .
If you enjoy collecting give it a go , all you need is the space and some spare cash to get started .

Quality item , the word 'rare' is used to often in IMO as most of the stuff is expensive but can be available to buy at any time you choose . Something like this in nice condition is simply not for sale 99.99999% of the time .

Yeah I guess you don't even need a raspberry pie , just emulate them from your laptop , would be less hassle . But the vast majority of people buying these systems will have no clue about emulation or even know what a raspberry pie is . They won't be people who are seriously into the hobby , they just enjoyed the games as kids and just want a pick up and play on their HD tv . My brother in law is a good example , he played my nes mini all last Christmas and loved it , but he is a builder and is not in any way computer literate so this would be great for him . These aren't priced that bad IMO , plus they are collectable and hold value , I could sell my nes mini for 3 times what I paid tomorrow , god knows what price the snes mini will be going for come Christmas .

After spending ages promoting it, Gamespot says avoid: www.gamespot.com/sega-genesis-flashback-classic-console-review/Frameskips to maintain performance (unforgivable) Poor controllers Daft interface Padded out with awful not Sega games shovelware And some genuinely BS complaints too It doesn't play everything - even that glowing youtube review mentions it I gotta say I'm not overly concerned about alot of the complaints in that article , some of them are just plain nit picking Of course fameskips and the controllers would be a concern but it takes original controllers and any footage I've seen has been smooth . All the big youtube channels will have review units now so I will keep a look out for more thoughts .

Just watched John Hancock review this on youtube , Certainly looks way better than previous at game efforts , sound and picture look great , It's cool that they added some quality sms and game gear titles to the line up . You also got a nice selection of megadrive games plus it plays the original cart's in HD Going to get this for the living room , also somehow managed to pre order a snes mini so it will be interesting to see how they compare www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqonOoqAiMU

Since I had moved to Leeds and now have a CEX near me I've been buying all sorts from charity shops, car boots etc and overall my experience of the place has been mixed. If the local store manager wasn't as knowledgeable as the typical staff I would have said it was a terrible place. I must have traded in around 400/500 worth for roughly less than half of what I paid probably more than that too. When they first start doing PS1 it was great they paid so much for just a loose unit with 1 dual shock and lead, around £26 if I could remember. While picking them up at car boots and local ads from around 5/10 each. The prices of some stuff has dropped drastically. So I've always found its best to trade frequently while the iron is still hot. So here comes the bad part out of 7 SNES cartridges I've ordered online a whopping 5 had been repros. Meaning travelling to the store getting a refund, buying online only to find a lot of their more expensive snes games are fake. I've only bought 1 master system game. The fact the ads don't state if they include a manual just puts me right off. From what I understand boxed to them means box with a chance of a non mint manual. Which I'm not that too fussed about. The general staff at mine besides for the manager are clueless when it comes to anything retro. So what I tend to do is build up vouchers. Buy anything to resell in store that I can see for myself its condition. Or recently I bought several copies of crash for the PS4 and sold them for roughly the same changing voucher in to cash to fund buy master system games through eBay. Yeah I thought CEX would have a big problem with SNES repros when they started the retro stuff , just because it costs more . But 5/7 is really high percentage , They don't open the carts up to check them , but it's not even necessary for scammers to make a repro , just put a new label on a super tennis cart , Even with genuine carts the reproduction boxes would easily fool the staff . Luckily people like you can spot the repro's but alot of people will get tricked and then when they decide to sell they make their way on to the open market .

Wow, that really is something else. Are you going to cart swap it with a world soccer or you not that bothered about it? Think I've been very lucky so far with the quality of stuff I've received, long may it remain that way! Quick question, you say you've had 'mint' stuff from CEX, in your opinion, how good is 'mint' as I know many collectors would deem mint to be as-new whereas others would be more lenient on their grading? Well I've never actually received an actual mint game from cex , I should have said I ordered a mint Maximum Carnage and Splatter House . I've purchased maybe 20 megadrive games from them all listed as mint , I only had to return 3 , the rest while certainly not mint as they where maybe missing hanging tabs or manuals creased or other small imperfections where still fine to keep . To me mint is perfect condition , cex have told me mint is perfect condition also , very few games this age are in perfect condition CEX basically want to only accept games as in boxed condition , looking at the trade in prices sometimes they are even offering the same trade in for boxed and mint anyway . Addams Family boxed £4 , mint £4 Batman Returns boxed £2 , mint £2 Dracula boxed £4 , mint £4 Captain Silver boxed £4 , mint £4 Theirs many more like this and the cash prices are way less , I can't see cex getting much stock at those prices , they are a bit more clued up with the megadrive so I can keep sending my wii controllers and xbox 360 stuff and getting cheap games that way . I'm just gonna keep the outrun cartridge and use it to bore people who visit about how reliable cartridges are .

It's always a gamble with cex , I recently received a Bubsy II for the megadrive which had actually been been chewed up by a dog , the returns process is hassle free so it's not so much of a big deal I recently tried to trade in a mint double dragon , guy rejected it because it had ' pins missing ' he hadn't a clue what he was doing , My local store do not test the games , they don't have the hardware to do it , I once asked if they used a retron 5 for testing but the guy had no idea what I was talking about . I don't think the master system has been that much of a cash cow for cex , I noticed they have stopped accepting games like super tennis , the ninja , monaco gp etc . They have also slashed the trade in prices for most games , they offered some great prices at the beginning , Also they still are selling certain games way to cheap , streets of rage II mint £25 , Home alone mint £30 , Dr.Robotnik mint £28 They will never get anyone to trade in at those prices . I use them mostly to buy megadrive games , I recently bought 10 wii controllers at a car boot for under £20 and sent them to cex for £150 in credit , and got a mint Maximum Carnage and Splatter House , Those games on ebay would be over £100 and I basically got them for £20 . Funny enough I just ordered a game and was chewed by a dog... must of had the same owner! Yeah I've had a couple of dog attacks in my time collecting , strictly no dogs in my games room , This copy of out run fell victim to a vicious dog attack Good thing cartridge's are ultra durable , still works like a charm , got this in a bundle , seller described everything as ' in working condition ' which is technically correct I guess .

As a kid the game I was most disappointed with would be Chuck Rock , I had been tempted to get it a few times as I was impressed with the snap shots I had seen and also liked the artwork , was all you had to go on back then . Thankfully I never got it but it instead swapped from a school friend over the summer holidays in exchange for Asterix
It's safe to say I was glad to get Asterix back after the holidays , I found Chuck Rock boring , was a very slow paced game compared to other platformers on the system , the other huge disappointment was the almost complete lack of sound , it was almost like atari 2600 sound effects . I've not been tempted to try the game again , but I might give Chuck Rock II a chance over the weekend to see if any improvements got added .
Most disappointed game as an adult would be Sonic Chaos , closely followed by Asterix the great rescue , really enjoyed the other sonic and asterix games as a kid and both of these failed miserably in comparison for me .

Supposedly the sound issue is solved now with the new emulation engine. I think the big selling points of this new series of "flashback" consoles are - a nice 720p signal via HDMI (simulated scanlines optional); plays carts from any region; bluetooth controllers (with controller ports if you want to use your own official/classic controllers); save states and rewind feature. Unknown/doubtful - whether it will work with an Everdrive or a Power Base Converter. I wish they wouldn't put the shovelware games on them, though, as it makes it less appealing. NES Mini proved that a good selection of games doesn't need to be padded out with that kind of stuff. Yeah from the footage I've seen online the graphics and sound are now great This effort from atgames will be much more appealing to the non hardcore retro gamers compared to previous efforts due to the new features and design Like the nes mini these will likely sell like hot cakes , hopefully these will also be eventually hacked with more games added

I will definitely be pre ordering the megadrive at games have seen how popular the nes mini was and upped their game , first off it actually looks like a megadrive so it's more marketable to people with a casual interest in gaming . The controllers have been improved , with 2.4G wireless instead of those infrared one's . The sound and picture should be way better now that they have retired the Firecore clone in favour of an ARM and an emulator . HDMI out is great for the living room or to take to a friend or family members house , Also save states is a nice new feature If anyone has an interest in this product get you pre order in or you will be buying from one of these lovely people at inflated prices

I know it's only a minor thing but I'm glad it's button 1 punch & 2 jump , I was playing the original on cartridge few weeks back and it just didn't sit well with me the other way round , Agreed, I grew up with the built in version for the SMSII so the cartridge release is virtually unplayable for me. yeah but on the down side I don't like those rice bowls , Alex deserves a Ham Burger for passing those challenges .
