Well not much to say about myself. I have aspergers, a form of autism that affects ppl who are to smart for there own good. Plus had manic depression since i was about 5. School never went well for me let's just say. Not had to many jobs, and any i have had have been part time. Had to quit them all cause of mental health problems. Besides gaming, i enjoy film and going for walks. Im also a staunch supporter of the resurrection of an independent Scotland. That's all i guess, im rather useless at describing myself lol Wow, I wouldn't say you are useless at describing yourself, I would say that you are brutally honest. Sorry to hear about your manic depression & aspergers and that they affect your daily life with jobs. I obviously can't relate or claim to know what you are going thru as I don't have manic depressions, but to an extent I can relate to mental problems negatively affecting daily life seeing as I have bouts of anxiety with panic attacks stemming from a life crisis a couple of years ago. The fear and the anticipation of a coming one and the angst I get when having one can greatly affect my daily life which is probably the number one reason why I'm studying instead of having a full-time job. Hopefully your interests in video games & movies can help you a bit.

Technically i have never been officially diagnosed with manic depression, despite all the signs being very outwardly obvious. And brutal honesty is often something people say is both a gift and a curse i have. On the plus side i know myself better than most ppl ever will apparently. On the downside when im pushed into argument by let's just say arse holes. I have destroyed a few minds in my time with my outsiders insight.

Yes, Kasai is utterly mad and strange too Most of those ultraviolent wrestlers are crazy. I know Thumbtack Jack, because he's from munich and infamous for some extreme matches (and that one famous match were Nick Gage nearly died) I don't understand it why they force themself through all this pain, even after only a couple of days their bodys look like they've been through heel (Thumbtack Jack looks even worse thanks to his emo-haircut he has nowadays and the scarifications, which is some sort of body mod) Remember that freaking power rangers (of all things) got put off the air here in Sweden in the mid 90s after pressure from parents that kids emulated the show and fought each other. Yes, because kids never fight with each other and wouldn't just find something else to pretend to be while fighting with each other. Don't tell me, Germany has the heaviest censorship in the world. There are still some Master System games (like Black Belt, Operation Wolf) banned here. Action movies were censored for a long time. Predator was unbanned in 2009 along with Terminator. Since this January movies like Bloodsport, Commando and Missing in Action are unbanned. And going back to wrestling: It started to get popular in around 1990 around here. I still have those 1991 WWF trading cards (and the 1993 and 1995 versions), nobody ever had a problem with it, until 1995, when the TV station decided to show WWF Superstars on Sunday afternoon, of course it was a better showtime than "Friday 21:30) and the kids (me included) loved it but suddenly Wrestling was deemed dangerous, violent and was banned. WWF (and WCW) were forced to be shown after 10 PM. The one thing i never quite understood was, why violence is such a problem here, when sex wasn't. Because during Wrestling, we had to endure 10-15 minutes of telephone sex commercials and other crap, at the same time other tv stations showed porn movies. I never understood it. (And believe me, those porn hotline spots were awful, it was either some BDSM crap, 60 year old "grandmas" or generaly MILFs and with 11-12 year old, i was completely freaked out, i wanted to see the nWo, Hogan, Sting and not crap like that) The censors did more harm then good with the change

Hmm, I believe Australia's got the heaviest censorship in the world, isn't it. To this day you can't own a copy of Mortal Kombat or Manhunt at the place.

Had to switch over to German DSF which meant German commentators that I didn't understand and those commercials that were really a WTF back then, never were anything like that on Swedish TV

Hmm, I believe Australia's got the heaviest censorship in the world, isn't it. To this day you can't own a copy of Mortal Kombat or Manhunt at the place. That was only because the Age Rating in Australia goes up to 15+. If the Rating Agency denies that rating, the game is automatically banned. I think they now introduced a 18+ rating last year. In Germany it's a bit different as we have different age restrictions (no limitation, 6 years, 12, 16, 18) and since, i think, 2005 they are strictly enforced. On top of that, we also have the Index, games that are put on this list are either only to be sold to adults (advertising is forbidden) or if they get on list B it's forbidden to sell and buy them in Germany. Because of the Index lists and the fear of Publishers their games get on it (therefore restricting sales), they either didn't sell the games here or released censored versions. Blood was either turned off or turned black/green, violence was censored, sexual content was taken out it went so far that in some games even weapons or enemies were deleted. For example in the Grand Theft Auto games, there is no blood, if you kill the civilists they don't drop any money (making the game a bit more difficult even) and for example in Vice City they even took out some missions. What makes it really crazy is that they can put games on the Index list whenever those people want and that leads to situations like Unreal Tournament getting banned FIVE YEARS after the release and just now they banned the PS2 version of UT, even though it was sold for about 10 years without any problems. And video games without a USK (the rating agency) rating are automatically "nor for minors" leading to a huge amount of problems with old games (everything released before 1994). So it's basically illegal to sell Master System games to minors I don't think any country can top the censorship crazyness we have here

Holy crap! Come to think of it, I guess I remember a german, censored version of Half-Life in which you fight robots instead of zombies and whenever a human is "killed", he sits on the floor with a sad expression, like if saying "oh no, me's got defeated".
Here in Brazil we kind of make fun of the government when they ban videogames. A while ago, Bully was banned due to an incident in which a high schooler emulated some of the game's events on the real life and got some people hurt. A game that probably never sold one legal copy and is from a generation which's been dead for more than 5 years now. A few years ago they forbid the sale of Counter-Strike, even though Counter-Strike can't be sold because it's a free Half-Life mod and the ban wouldn't include the commercial versions, like Condition Zero. Duke Nukem 3D was also banned some years ago due to some crazy dude who walked into a Cinema shooting people after firing a few test shots on the bathroom mirror.
Nobody really cares about those bans. Not long ago I got myself a big box version of Duke 3D and no one ever cared. It arrived safely at my front door just like any other game.
I'd hate to live in a place with heavy censorship rules. Everybody loses with censorship.

Come to think of it, I guess I remember a german, censored version of Half-Life in which you fight robots instead of zombies and whenever a human is "killed", he sits on the floor with a sad expression, like if saying "oh no, me's got defeated". Yeah, there was even a shortlived german version of Counter-Strike (they were sold as stand-alone beginning with the official 1.0 version of CS), where killed enemies would just sit around....i never played it, but seen videos and those who played it always had problems figuring out if that is a sitting dead guy or a ducking living enemy. That was around all the controversy after the massacre in erfurt where politicians wanted to ban Counter-Strike. In the end the game wasn't banned. Thanks to digital distribution through Steam or Gog.com most of the censoring doesn't work. While Steam can't sell indexed games, you can always let them gift your from a person in another country or just buy the censored version, apply a patch and have it uncut - that's what i did with Left 4 Dead 2 and Gog.com apparently isn't interested in German laws, you can buy all those banned games like Duke Nukem 3D or Blood. Valve themself once even gifted me both Half-Life Add-Ons on Steam, so i got the uncensored US versions that are also still banned here. ;D And Bully caused also some uproar here in Germany. Media wen't crazy with "GTA in School!!!! Now you can school kids!!!". Once the game was released nobody talked about it anymore as everybody saw that it was a rather High-School comedy in the style of movies like Revenge of the Nerds. It got a "16 and above" rating here.

I find Bully unplayable due to the forever-looping bass line that's supposed to act as the background music for the game anyways ;D
But it's shameful to see politicians talking about things they don't understand. Makes you wonder if they're really prepared for their jobs.

hope no-one minds me resurrecting an ancient thread, found it by accident looking for something else and thought maybe our newer members might have something interesting (cant guarantee i am interesting though)
I was born just outside manchester many years ago, I have 1 half sister but we havent seen eachother since 1997 and I have no intention to change that, I studied travel and tourism at college, I was the only male in lots of my classes, not as great as it sounds. I left and got a job, a month after I started I was the victim of a street robbery and it left me afraid to leave the house, I felt scared going anywhere other than work (it was in a pub) I was scared and insecure and as a way of kicking myself up the backside after being made redundant from the pub I got a job with a supermarket chain and also applied for university. I lasted just under a year, left there and went full time at work. I stayed there for another 5 years before getting a job as a technical advisor for a phone company, I stayed there about 5 years until redundancy and outsourcing was looking inevitable. I had gained a bunch of qualifications in writing for publication and try to use them every so often. I have had numerous health scares and last year I was diagnosed with vitiligo, which is an awful condition but i try not to let it stop me in my life. I am getting married in July and when i am not collecting for the master system, I love british touring car racing and I moderate another forum (not games related)

I like it when somebody finds an old thread and revives it. My old nickname thread is somewhere too, in the deeps of this forum You had a lot of different jobs, much more than I had^^ But you got a lot of experiences, which is useful for sure. That robbery thing was a bad incident. Sometimes I won´t go out myself here, but we can´t stay at home for the rest of our lives. There aren´t only bad guys out there, but many good people as well (like the guys you´ve met at the sega8bit event ). Vitiligo is an awful disease. But you do it right, keep going and enjoy your life. You have a wonderful woman by your side (sometimes it feels that I know her as good as I know you) and I wish you both a long and happy life together

I honestly do not know how I would cope with things like the vitiligo without Laura, I probably would struggle meeting someone. That brings me onto something sort of interesting, I met Laura in 2008 via internet dating. Back then there was more of a stigma than there is now, funny how opinions can change with millions of tv advertisements lol
