Sounds good to me too.
I feel like i should be doing something but rally cant think of anything else that needs to be done.
I'm going to bring 3 SMS's and i'll bring one each of the comp games as welll as a few other games. I'll see what else i can bring to add into the prize pot.
Hopefully if playgen also brings a few SMS's and games we should be good.

Also..
I previously said I would stay out til 10:30 (meaning i would arrive home at midnight), however I have since booked a holiday and fly out Sunday afternoon so I don't want to stay out quite that late, perhaps more like 7:30 - 8 ish.
Obviously nobody else needs to change their plans, I just wanted to let you all know in advance how i'm fixed.

Geez, thats so many games I don't know how to play! And where's California Games? I'll bring a Master Everdrive charged with games (if i find it among my boxes), wouldn't hurt in case there's unplanned games we'd like to play.

Sounds like a good list of games . The Power Strike contest will be interesting and probably very close if you're just doing the first level! I'll try and make time to practise the games I'm less familiar with, I want to at least be in the top 3 this year ;D.

It'd be best to play on real systems as much as possible, if only for some parallelism, obviously savestates are going to be needed for at least two of those games though.
An initial (random) playoff (for each game) to get it to 8 people seems the easiest way to organise the competition part.

An initial (random) playoff (for each game) to get it to 8 people seems the easiest way to organise the competition part. Or the winner of the previous contest against a randomly drawn person just to add a little more of a challenge! The first contest would have to be a speedrun or high score contest though to make it fair

Or ian against a randomly drawn person FTFY... and thereby showing it's the same as making the random person not play at all.

Don't worry guys, we'll keep it down to 8. It's too tricky to keep fair otherwise.
We can have multiple systems running the knock-out games. I'd like the individual rounds and knockout finals on the projector though, so I can keep track of things.
rupes - Would you be able to double-check with the venue that everything is still happening? Cheers mate

With 9 people, it's just a matter of 7 of them getting a bye into the second round. Having an initial playoff to get it to 8 is the same effect. I don't like the idea of systematically removing someone from the competition, regardless of their abilities - because it's the taking part that counts, or something along those lines. So long as the slot allocation is random, there's nothing unfair about it.
I'd say the best option is to print up the competition knockouts and high-score tables on bits of paper (one per game) to make keeping track on the day as simple as possible.
Now, I need to get some practice in. The 3.5 hours I've sunk into Faceball 2000 this week is no use at all...

rupes - Would you be able to double-check with the venue that everything is still happening? Cheers mate Done, dropped them a quick mail to confirm everything is still okay. The pub actually opens at 10am on Saturday, i've advised we'll need the room from around 11:00 or 12:00 ish and the 'event' will start from about 13:00 and perhaps go on to 20:00 at the latest? I guess you can just carry on if you want to or go for a drink etc if your staying over. So if people are looking for a time to show up I would suggest around 13:00 or before if your bringing a system or two. I'll aim to get there about 11:30 ish.

Also, for those of us who want to take the competition far too seriously, could people who know the games post guides on the controls, purpose, how to get to the right thing to be practising, etc? Micro Machines: 1 = accelerate 2 = brake (you won't need it) L/R = steer (rotate). Go to 1-player -> head to head to practice. You want to get far enough ahead that your opponent touches the edge of the screen; that gets you a point (shown at the top-left). Get all the points, or have the most after 3 laps, to win. If it's tied after 3 laps, it goes to sudden death. Track maps here: www.smspower.org/Maps/MicroMachines-SMSPutt & Putter: Hit the ball into the hole (marked by a flag). Avoid falling into the water. Hit switches to turn off (or on) the moving sand. IN leads to OUT. Controls: D-pad = look around. Hold 1 to move faster. 2 = place ball. Must be on the grey square. Once placed: 2 = start aiming. Once aiming: L/R = aim 2 = select angle. Once selected, the power bar appears, and: 2 = select power level Maps here: www.smspower.org/Maps/PuttAndPutter-SMS?gallerypage=Stage+1+Hole+No.+4You'll have to play through rounds 1-3 to practice. Don't choose "practice mode". Teddy Boy: Enemies spawn from dice. Shoot them and they miniaturise; collect all the miniature enemies before the time runs out. You can shoot the blue walls. Stand still for too long and the floor will disappear. Levels wrap both horizontally and vertically, which can be a bit confusing until you get used to it. Controls: L/R = run 1 = jump 2 = shoot Map here: www.smspower.org/Maps/TeddyBoy-SMS?gallerypage=Round+2Level select: UDLR, move cursor to 1P, then press U, Dx9, 1. Or just play through stage 1. Are the non-attendees getting a picture reportage afterwards? Sounds like you guys are going to have a blast there.
