Date is now fully confirmed you can make your plans. I just have to get back to them with the times we want the room. Im thinking 13:00 until 19:00 unless anyone thinks we need anything different?

I don't mind the choice of games we play, just looking forward to meeting you all really. But if I had to choose, Bubble Bobble might be one of my choices

Argh!!!! I'm running in the Mens Health Forum Scotland 10k the next day, something I've been aiming toward since my leg breaks in November, and paid to run in.... I'm not sure that 6 hours travelling the day before (3 hours each way) would be a good idea... but I don't want to miss this... God, you guys don't half want to keep me out - always having these events on dates that are awkward for me!! ;D I'll have to debate the matter with myself (I don't know who will win!) and make a decision...

kungfukid, you've always got an excuse! You've gotta come man. I'll be travelling for like 5 hours each way and am putting something else off to be there. What's more important in life than the Sega Master System eh?

Lol, I know - but I even said weeks and weeks ago - being one of the few that commented on the poll - that pretty much the only time that was awkward for me out of all of the months and options given was the middle to end of June...

I was thinking perhaps we could all bring along spare games we don't want, and do some swapping. Doesn't have to be just sms either.

Well, I bought some train tickets for a swingeingly high price. Shall we start arguing about the games to play? I'm mostly with James/rupert: * Micro Machines - 100% has to be done. * Pie Slap - ditto. I can't believe everyone thought I was making this up in '08! But it can go to a long stalemate (see below) * Mean Bean Machine - another game I think I'm good at * Putt & Putter - maybe with some way of shortening it (see below) * We should have a gun game, a beat-em-up and a shooter (high score challenge), for genre coverage, but I can't recommend in those genres * How about a 3D game? I've never played with real glasses... Missile Defense 3-D perhaps? * Maybe a secret game? So the competition maniacs can't specifically practice it. If we have the resources, I might be able to come up with some hacks to make the games more competition-like - somewhat like the GamesMaster TV show. For example, I could make a level select for Putt & Putter for the competition so we can have 1-course challenges on the more interesting courses. Or a time attack competition on something that isn't the first level (evil suggestion: Wonder Boy in Monster Land final castle maze). Emulation makes these easier but Action Replays and/or Master Everdrives make things possible on real hardware. I could turn up with something (probably Korean) that's never been seen before, for the "secret game" part, but I don't know if I can get it on a real cartridge. I have an SMS-PRO somewhere that might work, but James has my parallel port cable and SMSReader... For the stalemates, we should have some arbitrary way to decide a winner, e.g. for Pie Slap take the person with more points (or go to sudden-death) after 5 or 10 minutes.

Looks like were on the same wave length with this. Good idea about playing something more unusual that people wont have been able to practice. I think we do need to keep the games short and snappy with not too many rounds, the comp in 08 got out of hand with everyone having to play everyone at multiple events within sports compilations. Picking names out of a hat to play each other works better. I'll bring your SMSReader to the event.

I can organise the competiton again unless anyone else is interested in doing it. Obviously I'd take into account the one I did in 2008 and make it more managable. I think using emulators and save states might help with getting things done quicker.
I would like to bring my MAME arcade cab, but would have difficulty getting it there on a coach or train. Is anyone from the south (I'm in London) driving up there?

Bringing a cab is ambitious, especially considering it'll be upstairs.
Suggestion: how about we cross-promote it on SMS Power and make it a "joint event"?

Well, I bought some train tickets for a swingeingly high price. Just had a thought Maxim. I could possibly drive up there. Would you be up for going halves on petrol if you were able to cancel your train tickets?
