As many of us on this forum, the master system was our first or one of our childhood consoles. Wether over time like I had originally sold my console and games from when I first owned them. Then later re-buying/collecting other games since. If for some members it's a console only recently acquired then what games do you remember playing or games that stuck in your mind. Here's what I originally had as a child missing double hawk and master games which I have yet got around to buying again.

What a great idea for a thread - an original idea is hard to find! Would be interesting to see other's childhood collections nicely photographed. Alas my stuff is boxed up whilst I decorate!

Awesome thread! I know the discussion has happened before, but I don't think anyone has ever taken the time to visually recreate their childhood collection. Looks great! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully some others will take the time to give us a glimpse into their childhood memories. Here's mine roughly in order of purchase... Edit: found pics from Christmas morning '87. Like my he-man pj's?

IIRC, something like this: Golvellius Alex Kidd IMW Zillion Shinobi Wonder Boy 1 & 3 Enduro Racer Alien Syndrome After Burner Slap Shot Great Golf Hang-On Astro Warrior & Pit Pot Ghostbusters Ghost House Marksman Shooting / Trap Shooting / Safari Hunt Teddy Boy Zaxxon 3D, Outrun 3D, Space Harrier 3D, even Maze Walker and Blade Eagle. Maybe: Phantasy Star, Choplifter, Wonder Boy 2, Outrun. We borrowed some games from friends. The games I remember wanting the most when browsing magazines, based on their box art: Ys, Zillion 2, Rastan, Castle of Illusion. We switched to MD pretty early, I think I actually had a US version of Thunder Force II from a trip before the actual console.

Unlucky on the F-16 Fighting Falcon though Here's the only picture I have of my original Master System, unboxing on Xmas day! (I'm the little guy in the background) By the time I traded my entire original collection for a SNES, I think had about 40 games. I've made a list somewhere of the ones I can remember but couldn't quite recall all of them.

What's games did you have for the master system. I had to recreate mine, I remember when my parents gave away my master system once u upgraded to the Saturn not long before realising the PlayStation was far better.

Love the Dad pose with the light phaser I'll get mine sorted later... might be able to go chronologically, excluding titles I sold, if brain holds out that far into the evening. Must see if my parents organised the really old photos yet, my SMS II is 25 this xmas!

Great idea for a thread. I'll post mine up when I get a minute over xmas. I think can remember pretty much all my original games, I still own some of the originals.
Annoyingly I don't seem to have any photos of me playing games back in the day. Although I'm going to ask my Dad if he has any as I think he has a lot of photos i've never even seen.

Vaguely chronological, based on a combination of memories and high score dates in the back of the manual! Key Points 1991: Operation Wolf (xmas, came with SMS II) 1992: Scramble Spirits (first game bought), Strider II (birthday... I think), Sonic 2 (xmas) 1993: Super Space Invaders (birthday... I think), Sonic Chaos (xmas) 1994: Desert Strike (new year, replaced Sonic chaos), Robocop vs Terminator (last SMS game bought new), Super Nintendo (birthday, replaced SMS) Some that I sold but never replaced, date bought in brackets: The Cyber Shinobi (1994) - it was terrible G-LOC (1993) - easy, boring Renegade (1994) - boring, stupid last stage Shadow of the Beast (1994) - horrible, spiteful, horrible game Special Criminal Investigation (1993) - so very easy Super Tennis (1992) - easy, boring World Grand Prix (1992) - boring Sold/lost but eventually replaced in recent years Alien Storm* Chuck Rock* GP Rider+ Scramble Spirits* Sonic 2+ Sonic Chaos# Super Space Invaders+ * sold in 1994 to fund SNES games + in a box that was lost moving house in 2001 # never worked properly but still managed to complete, so took back for a refund

Interesting to know the order you got your games in. Funnily enough I got sonic 2 first then sonic 1 about a year later. I remember my parents ordering Indiana Jones from some catalogue and it got sent to the wrong house but luckily everyone knew each other in my area so brought it to mine. A lot of mine came from car boots Road Rash is the one I seem to have the most memories of. We never got in to the 16bit era so car boots were a gold mine for master system games. I remember having a lot of choice but my parents only often let me have enough money for one and the artwork for road Rash has that instant attention grabbing effect. My brothers friend gave us a few games which were mortal Kombat and Alex the Kidd in Shinobi world. Both classics! In pre school so I must have been roughly 3/4 I used to take game cases to school so I could look at the pictures and manual.

there are odds and ends of pics of Christmases gone by but my parents have them, mostly from when both me and my sister were small

I got SMS for Christmas 1990. I got all I have within next four years, except My Hero I found at a flea market ca. 2000. Notice the wrapping on one pad. The D-button's edges have broken off, so this is my solution... One of the original pads in the package of replacement. One or two buttons haven't worked well last 20 years. I would have the box somewhere, but not digging it out right now. Games I traded away: - The Ninja - Fantasy Zone - Golden Axe - Sonic the Hedgehog - Ghouls'n Ghosts - Phantasy Star (yes... after finishing it I was so certain I'd never play it for second time...)

In pre school so I must have been roughly 3/4 I used to take game cases to school so I could look at the pictures and manual. It was a model 2, Master System II Plus bundle. Order I bought things was usually "oh it has this game" or "this looks cool from the name and handful of screenshots on the back" whenever I had pocket money to burn. Most of the '92/'93 releases I got off the back of magazine reviews and just found older games. Never had Sonic 1 simply because literally everyone else had a copy so I played it to death anyway! I can remember where I bought most of them from as well! Toys R Us was the place to go if you really wanted a game that you couldn't find anywhere else - they literally had everything (well, except the light phaser version of Assault City) and later on did some cool bundles. I got GP Rider/Golden Axe/Shadow of the Beast for £30 and I only went in wanting GP Rider. We also had an independent record shop in nearby Ely that was about 50% video games... it was there that I passed on Power Strike II in favour of Desert Strike An odd one but Boots had a nice line in video games in the 80s and early 90s - I got a few Spectrum games from there and it was the only place that had SMS Mortal Kombat at release.
