I reviewed the game on this site about 5 years ago. Link. I know it isn't the best game but there's something I just love about it. The way the monsters explode into giant pixels is kind of awesome. I actually prefer the 8-bit music to its arcade and Genesis counterparts as well.

There is no experience like playing Great Ice Hockey with the Sports Pad. You really have to reef on the trackball just to move. It's a workout, but a lot of fun haha.

Hey friends, I only need four more releases until I have all the US and PAL games, can anyone help me out?
Need:
Crash Dummies Daffy Duck in Hollywood Super Off-Road Tecmo World Cup '93
Can anyone help me out? Complete preferably, but I do have the cover and box for Tecmo if someone has the game only. Hopefully some of you can help, or even point me in the direction of a reasonably priced eBay auction that ships to Canada.
Thanks!

Today my gift from Estimated Santa arrived and it couldn't be a happier Christmas. That's a signed puck from one of my favorite hockey players growing up, Denis Savard, and that Master System square on the bottom is a cool fridge magnet! T2 was a Genesis game I played to death growing up, and the two Dreamcast games are ones I always wanted to try but never got the chance to, so I'll be having some fun with all of these. Well worth the wait, thanks man!

Damn, all I need is that special issue. Love those magazines, they were really well done back in the day, especially with those discs.

Good points all around here. Always was weird to me too. If you look through this commercial compilation, you'll see the marketing jumps equally between referring to the system as simply the "SEGA System" or "The SEGA Master System": www.youtube.com/watch?v=WILpoK-JcPoI think initially they were going for just the SEGA System but with three variations (Base, Master, SuperScope) but since the Master System bundle seemed to take off the most, they just started to go by that name in general instead. Interesting how the Power Base Converter made no mention of the "Master" despite it coming out in 1989, well after Master System became the going name.

Just downloaded and played the arcade version of Fighting Vipers on XBLA. Only 400 MS points too, great price. I loved this game on the Saturn - it was great to see the arcade original and it looks even better with the HD resolutions. The achievements are probably the easiest I've ever seen. I really had a blast playing this though, it's a wild little fighter with a lot of personality.

Finally got around to playing this after only ever dabbling in the first level in years past. Man, the difficulty sure spikes once you get to the city level and beyond. After an hour or so of failure I went all PAR and plugged in infinite lives so I could make it all the way through. I think the last few levels aren't quite as bad as the city level either, because in the city level the policemen are so fast and there is so little cover (being that it is on a pretty open street for most of it). At least in the final couple levels you have some reprieve behind trees and rocks and such.
Fun game, the control takes a bit of getting used to, but those familiar with The Ninja should know the drill with the clunky diagonal-centric movement. It was kind of annoying that you couldn't fully turn around to shoot the baddies, but since they couldn't do that either it made it kind of moot. The last boss is pretty fun but man, it can be annoying with all these bombs being thrown at you from every which way.
I played through both Rambo and Secret Command just to see the differences, and gameplay-wise there is NOTHING different in the least bit, even down to the main sprite (shows how much SEGA was originally going after Rambo in the first place...). The only differences were in the start screen image and the small images that fill the little film frame after each level. In Secret Command they are more golden and are inexplicably pictures of a Sphinx (getting closer in on the Sphinx as you advance). The Rambo pictures make more sense and are culled more from the film (Rambo tying the headband, carrying a bow, etc.). The endings to both games are identical, but that makes sense because by the end Secret Command kind of abandons that Sphinx thing and just focuses on the usual American war machismo with (SPOILER) the copters coming in over the sunset.
What I probably found most humorous was that in the end credits it specifically makes mention of two songs, giving attributes to the composer, lyrics(!) and production. I didn't play this in FM, but I doubt these songs have any lyrics in them there...kind of weird that they'd credit the lyricist here for some blips and bloops. Sega Sound is credited as the studio...anyone have any more background on this?
Anyway, 'twas a good time and I'm glad to have finally played it. I should rip through the game's spiritual brother, Time Soldiers, sometime in the near future. Thanks for the recommend and write-up, lambrettadave!
