I started getting back in to platformers. I don't have many on the SMS so I've been playing my Genesis games here lately. I have Rastan, A.K. Miracle World, Altered Beast (if you consider this) and Cyborg Hunter (again if you consider it). That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I do want the Sonic games, Ghost House (game from my youth). Any other recommendations? Aside from Chirstmas my anniversary is soon and maybe I can get my wife to snag a game or two for then!

The two Mickey Mouse games (Castle of Illusion and Land of Illusion) are gems. Wonder Boy in Monster Land is a great hybrid of platforming with some light RPG elements. Shinobi is a lot of fun, with a very cool variety of levels to traverse. Kenseiden is one of my favorites, especially with Halloween on the way, as it's a very spooky game where you can choose your path to some degree. Ghouls 'n Ghosts is also one to try out, as it has an inventory system and health bar that makes the SMS version unique.

Ah yes, thank you! I forgot all about the Mickey Mouse games! And what's the name of the game that's Castlevania like? I had it on Game Gear but forgot the name? Thanks again! More games to put on my list!

if you want good platform games then importing from pal region is your friend if you are stateside.
sonic 1 and 2 are great, sonic 1 is expensive in the states and sonic 2 never got a release, over here they are very cheap and common. castle of illusion is expensive in the states, but cheap here in the uk those 3 would cost about £15/$25 for all three over here, bit less if you could cope with cart only or no manual
dracula and master of darkness are great too, as is psycho fox those three are more expensive then the others i talked about

Asterix. It's a great game. Asterix and The Secret Mission is also pretty good. Ninja Gaiden is also really good. The NewZealand Story is also good but rather difficult.

Robocod is a funny one, it looks impressive when compared to the MD and Amiga versions but it just doesn't feel busy enough and even lacking in some areas. I spent a good hour on it today but came away feeling a bit meh.
Another platformer I spent some time with was Master of Darkness. I wasn't impressed at first the enemies seemed way too fast (Especially those pesky bats and wax work figures in level 2, but once you settle down and become used to it there's a pretty good game beneath it all.
Another fav I've discovered is Batman Returns. I had similar problems with the difficulty at first as the lack of an energy bar means the 1 hit kills seem annoying but once you get into it and realise the extra lives are pretty plentiful becomes a whole other game. Must be enjoying it because I'm about three quarters of the way through!

Some of the underrated platformers are the MS version of Zool (which is the best Zool version in general, it has a much better gameplay than the Commodore/SNES versions) and Chuck Rock II, which is surprisingly good and has a lot of nice different level designs.
Dinobasher is also a lot of fun and one of my favourites. But the Master System offers loads of awesome platformers.
