As the title says, did any of you guys actually buy any of the games (or other items for that matter) that are now considered rare/valuable, back when the SMS was still in retail?
Most games are only rare simply because they didn't appeal much to buyers back when they were released, so it would be interesting to hear if anyone actually bought the likes of Championship Hockey, Masters of Combat etc.
I only bought what turned out to be totally common games, the only rare thing I bought originally and kept was my Action Replay.
I did buy a Speedball and Terminator double pack, but sadly threw away the packaging at one point. Did anyone else let a rare item go unknowing of the value it would later acquire?

Since most of the rarish games are later releases, I didn't get any of them on any systems as I used to get new systems rather quickly (some times by selling the older one ^^) The two last master system games we got on day-1 (we bought an import megadrive in 1989 and got a master system converter so we had kept our master system games) were cyber shinobi and shadow dance (because my brother was a Huge Shinobi fan which he used to play on the arcade at our martial arts club)

I've always been a fan of fighting games, so when my dad bought me Masters of Combat back in the day I was quite excited. I also had T2: The Arcade Game. Those were the only rare games I owned back in the day.
I remember playing Buggy Run but I must have borrowed it from someone.

I distinctly remember my dad going to a Kay Bee Toys store in the West Oaks Mall around 1992 and buying me Spider-Man and Strider, which are considered rare US releases containing the infamous UPC stickers. I remember opening the packaging and reading the instructions thinking it was very strange to have it written in so many different languages! Wasn't until a few years later that I discovered how rare these releases actually were. Shame they didn't have Sonic. :-(

For me nothing special, just the uncommon game Cosmic Spacehead. I still remember all friends asking about the strange shaped cartridge. First reactions were like "Oh, accidentally you bought a MegaDrive game." or "Are you sure this can be fitted in the console? And it works?" Nice memories... ;D

I got a couple of sms games from my cousin back in the day when he moved on to PC gaming. Rastan, Time Soldiers, Rampage and.. championship Hockey. I remember actually giving that last one back because it was horrible. I wonder what happened to it...

I didn't have an SMS when I was younger, we played at a friends house and their games were largely quite common. Other things, though, I had some rarities, but not like I do now.

Just common titles for me, though according to eBay and current pricing all of the stuff I used to own is now incredibly rare and valuable!

I definitely mentioned it some time in the past but yes, I bought Championship Hockey when it was first out. I really liked NHLPA when it was out on the Megadrive and had visions of Chmpionship Hockey being just a scaled down version of that with the same amazing gameplay. I was right of course.... ;D
Nothing else that you'd really call rare though, some less commonly available games like Streets of Rage 2 and California Games 2, but I wouldn't put them in the same category of course.

I didn't have any particularly rare games, but did have the Lucky Dime Caper/New Zealand Story "Telstar" double pack. Sadly I sold all of my original SMS stuff years ago.

No, I turned down Power Strike II in favour of getting Desert Strike.
I also was looking for the light phaser version of Assault City everywhere but never found it.

I remember seeing The Lucky Dime Caper box set in a shop back in the day but from what I remember I wasn't interested in buying it for whatever reason.
I didn't own any rare games back in the day but I suppose semi uncommon ones such as Micro Machines, Fantastic Dizzy and Cosmic Spacehead (I was always a fan of Code Masters games on the Spectrum) also had Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.
