So how many of you guys have a cabinet at your place? I know Estimated Prophet and Aypok have a few a piece, but anyone else? I'd love to see the kind of stuff everyone has.
Me, I picked up my first unit earlier this week - an upright Thunder Blade cabinet. I've always been a fan of the Master System version, and the arcade version certainly doesn't disappoint. I love being able to go into the preferences and muck around with all that stuff with the DIP switches. So primitive, but at the same time so well thought out.
My only gripe with arcade units - where's the battery backup for the high scores? I mean, seriously, units cost hundreds to thousands when sold, but they couldn't spend a few dollars extra on the battery and the extra circuitry? It makes it a pain to try and beat your own high score. Although in Thunder Blade at least, there is a save function in the bookkeeping section that lists the top score, and that's supposed to hold for (quoting the manual) "a minimum of three days". I'd guess it would be longer, but that's at least good to know.
Anyway, it would be great to hear what cabs you guys have, with any pictures you have available, too. Mine's in my garage right now, so I'll try and get some pictures when it's not snowing and freezing out. I'd also love to hear about the kind of variables you guys can modify with your DIP switches for your systems.
Here's what you can do on mine:
-Turn on or off sound during the attract mode -Control the number of continues and coins -Control the number of ships per continue -Set difficulty (Easy/Normal/Hard/Hardest) -Define whether the cab is a Thunder Blade cab or a modded After Burner cab -Allow a 30 second window where you are invincible at the start of each game

Congratulations dude! I was starting to wonder if you got it or not. Your first cab is always the sweetest! And it's Thunder Blade! Set those dip switches to ultra hard and prepare to cry . As you said, Aypok has a candy cab (or was it two?) and segaaustralia has more than me, you and Aypok combined I think. I have four... Out Run, Hang On, Turbo and Blasteroids. My first purchase was Out Run. I ended up getting Hang On at the same time from the same guy because shipping for two games is only $25-$50 more than one game. Out Run needs some cosmetic work: I need to fix the brake handle on Hang On but you really don't need it to play: Hang On has a great profile... and it lights up like freakin' Christmas! That's it for master system related cabs. The other two I found for cheap locally. Turbo is a childhood favorite and my oldest cab (1981). It has a huge subwoofer (right next to the coin slots) that has the sole purpose of producing room shaking engine noise. The digital score display still works too! My only non Sega cab is Blasteroids (a non vector sequel to Asteroids). I got it because I didn't have any two player games. And since you can play it competitively or cooperatively it fit the bill perfectly. I still don't have a cab that uses a joystick... but Frogger, Choplifter or Shinobi will change that soon enough.

Awesome pics, man! I've never seen that kind of Hang-on cab before, I've seen the stand up and the full on sit down with the bike, but never that. It looks great, and the condition looks spot on.
My Thunder Blade was local, and I'm hoping to just hold out for more local SEGA games, but who knows if there will be enough. I'd like to get 3 or 4, all told. Right now I've got the game set on the easiest possible and it's a cakewalk, but I wanted to see the ending. Especially since I always get owned on the SMS port. I love getting the games that were ported down to the SMS so you have that point for comparison. Although getting my dream cab of Virtua Fighter might not compare much to everyone's favorite, Virtua Fighter Animation. ;D

Yeah, I've got a cab. I'm sure I posted a picture in the "What you've recently bought" thread, but I've taken a new photo for good measure. This time it has a little pot of ¥100 coins. :) It's not a dedicated cab, like grolt and Estimated Prophet have. It's a plain JAMMA cab (a Taito Egret II), meaning it'll play any JAMMA boards. I've not got many games for it: Don Pachi (pictured), Do Don Pachi, Do Don Pachi Dai Ou Jou, Mr Driller, Mr Driller 2 and Mr Driller G. Having said that, I only play the first three on the cab (the latter three require the monitor to be rotated horizontally - I leave it vertical for the former three games, which are vertically-scrolling shmups). The Mr Driller games do get played, but through my TV by way of a supergun and my new arcade stick: It's a home-made thing I finished last weekend. I took a Mega Drive Arcade Stick, chucked away the old buttons and stick, attached proper buttons and a real joystick, then screwed it all to some MDF. :) Since it's a basically a Mega Drive stick, I also use it on my SMS and Amiga. I've also got a four-slot MVS with about a dozen carts - that's also run through the supergun. Come on, grolt. Where're the pictures of your cab? :)

I still remember passing on a Shinobi cab about 14 years ago. It was $100 and I thought it was too much. Luckily, I only had to wait until 2009 for an official re-release (on XBLA) ;D

Is there a dream arcade cabinet or game that you guys would love to have?
Personally I would really like to have an original Pacman or Space Invaders cab, I could happily play those on a regular basis, plus they are so iconic and significant to the boom of gaming.

Is there a dream arcade cabinet or game that you guys would love to have? Already got it: DonPachi. :) Although an Out Run 2 sit-down cab would be nice, but I'm never going to buy one (space reasons and it's a dedicated cab). I had a couple of goes on one last year - it was really fun. Personally I would really like to have an original Pacman or Space Invaders cab, I could happily play those on a regular basis, plus they are so iconic and significant to the boom of gaming. Good choices. I'd not buy original cabinets of either (see my aforementioned dislike of dedicated cabs), but they're great games. One game I would like (which sadly doesn't exists, as far as I know), is for an arcade version of the DS' Space Invaders Extreme which was released a year or so back (the DS version, I mean - it's also on the PSP, I believe). It's great fun, but playing it on the DS makes my hand hurt - and it could really benefit from a large screen.

Is there a dream arcade cabinet or game that you guys would love to have? I have always wanted Frogger and Ms. Pac Man, but Ms. Pac Man is way too expensive and every deal I've made for a Frogger machine has fallen through at the last minute. My dream cab would have to be Airline Pilots. I have been the second highest bidder twice in the last two years .
