This must be from a Famiclone. Almost all of them have DB9 ports, but I doubt having same pinout with SMS. In any case they are the most crappy controllers!

If it don't, it's easy to change the wire inside the controller to make it work on SMS. Can you post the link of the add please, if it's not to expensive I can be interested

That's a Turbocard NCE 105 J Gamepad. It's really rare and i don't have any more useful informations other that it's some third party gamepad for the Master System and is actually a german (or at least from a german speaking country) product since it says "Best. Nr." on the back (Bestellnummer, Ordering Number in german)

Its full name helps a lot. Congrats to well informed ShadowAngel. A quick search reveals that was made in Taiwan on behalf of the German company NCE. However seems to be a third party gamepad for C64, Amiga, etc. I can't find info being used with Master System but probably will also work. There's currently one for sale: www.ebay.de/itm/281411230126Keep in mind that has been relisted about 10 times and nobody buys it...

A quick search reveals that was made in Taiwan on behalf of the German company NCE. However seems to be a third party gamepad for C64, Amiga, etc. I can't find info being used with Master System but probably will also work. No, the C64 and the Amiga never had any "gamepads", they had Joysticks (you can use master system and mega drive gamepads on them that's just a side effect) the C64 and the Amiga only ever used 1 single button, so even the Compeition Pro with it's 2 buttons had 1 button mapped to both keys to enable left and right hand play. Games that used more buttons, like Lionheart used the Keyboard with the Joystick in question until some Joystick companies managed to map the keyboard feature onto a second button. And simply there was never ever a C64 Gamepad at all, not even third party. People used Joysticks at the time. The Amga even started with Joysticks. There's a reason the Competition Pro was such a huge hit for 1 decade. That pad is a Master System pad that is of course compatible with it's 9 pin for other consoles. The proof beyond the rare data is that it has 2 buttons: all the Amiga consoles have 1, it's not an intellivision one it lacks the keybap, it's not an atari 5200 for the same reason, it's not an famicom one because it lacks the start and select buttons, it's not an home computer one because it's not a joystick. Also the cable on the left side is a dead giveaway, that was only ever used in Japan and abandones once the console made it ouside the country.

No wonder, the price is way too high (plus 5€ shipping, pff) and the guy couldn´t test it before, so he offers it as ´defect´. Unacceptable.. I wonder what kind of drugs he´s using

Just glanced at the picture you posted of the gamepad, Gordie, and for a second there I thought you had found my grandpa's controlpad for his elevation-bed. Was just about to give you a medal ^^ Uncanny resemblance!

I saw a pad advertised like this in one of my old copies of Zzap64, so I'm guessing that it is a Commodore 64 compatible pad.

They all are more or less. I have previously used both SMS and Mega Drive controllers while playing on the C64.
