Why is this forum so censored? Im assuming every member here is an adult and can handle a word or two. I hate seeing my threads made childish from having an automatic censor change what Im saying.

it has to be turned off at admin level (i've built forums with proboards before)

It may be in a high level due to spam attacks, but personally don't have any problem with it.

I think it´s not THAT censored at all. It´s okay if words like b*st*rd are censored, because that word was often used here during the last two weeks (including by myself lol).

The auto censor section in the forum goes way overboard.

Testing:
a child conceived out of wedlock bottom hole spiderpig jolly nice chap faeces Nintendo
Edit: If I remember correctly you could get it to work if you just edit your post and rewrote the word, seems like it doesn't work anymore.

I'm not sure how the censored words originated, they may have been automated by ProBoards or were perhaps set up by ShinobiMan or Sinistral.
I can see the full list of censored words and can change them but don't see the point. As far as I know, in all the years the forum has been around, no one has ever had a major issue about censored words. I think they help keep it family-friendly and tone down more aggressive/controversial posts.
Personally, I don't mind if someone throws a swear in when they're verbally speaking about something but when you have time to compose a message, you should be able to express yourself without the need for swearing.

It looks like a standard list plus Stan doing something weird. I'd favour removing all of them - it's an annoyance and we're all adults here.
Here's the SMS Power censor list:
- Nintendo - In my opinion
Both are jokes.

I think of all the forums i have been on this is probably the most sensible.
The only barrier i see is as follows: Many swears/curses/profanities are localised and many non uk people wont understand the problem, most people when taught a language dont need to know how to curse. I moderate on a forum elsewhere with mostly non uk members, swear discussions between moderators is funny as only half are uk based

We had this discussion with Shinobiman many moons ago, it was his doing.

I save my swearing and cursing for when I play the games, not when I'm talking about them...
Sonic US Barcode should be banned on this forum (not a joke)

I find it quite funny! A bit like the BBC subtitles where Scunthorpe becomes S****horpe.

I've always liked the filter here - I remember having a few chats about it before when people discovered an unexpected word or phrase replacing something they'd written.
