I know I've mentioned it before but tonight it's REALLY getting on my last nerve.
Is there ANY way to mod/improve an SMS pad so you can actually press up, down, left or right WITHOUT hitting a @!#?@! diagonal!?!? And I've got small hands, dainty even, it's not like I've got a big bear paws that just mashes the whole child conceived out of wedlock.
Way back in '90 when I first got my SMS I had this problem, luckily my uncle gave me a Control Stick with it or it would have gotten very little play I'm sure.
Then in '92 when I got a Genesis and played that to the high heavens, I still played my SMS quite a bit because I only had 2 Genny games for about the first 4-6 months. Then I thought OK, I've mastered this D-Pad thing time to shelf the clunky joystick and try that nice little Game Pad. Still the same problem.
Here it is 2014. I'm fully capable of using Genesis, SNES, Saturn, PSX, XBox, GCN, even that acid trip they call an N64 controller, the D-pads on Tiger Handhelds, Game & Watches, GameBoy, Game Gear, DS, Etc... not to mention COUNTLESS PC game pads going way back to the Gravis Game Pad... and I STILL can't use that damn SMS D-Pad.
It wouldn't bother me so much as most* games you can just use a Genny controller.... keyword; MOST.
Why the @!#?@! do certain games wig out when a Genny controller is plugged in? The Genny controller is compatible with EVERY Atari 2600 title, and that was before Sega even MADE the damn thing.
And on top of that even if I were to play these SMS games through a Power Base Converter, I'd STILL need to use an SMS pad!!! You'd think they'd have put some kind of workaround inside the PBC so you could use a Genny pad, I mean, if you bought a PBC I assume it's because you didn't ALREADY own an SMS, but wanted to expand you're collection, therefor NOT OWNING an SMS Pad!!!!!!!
I need a smoke...
