What needs bringing is Master Systems and the necessary cables, up to a point - we usually have about four - and any games you want to play. I need to extract my digit and decide on the competition games, including wrangling any exotic items like light phasers and 3D glasses, as without enough (one or two?) of those it won't go well.

The pub opens at 12 on a Saturday so I plan to be there at that time ready to set up. I recommend people arove from 13:00 ish. I can come into town earler though and meet up for food etc. we could plan that nearer the time. Also still need to finalise the games comp and list of what we are all taking. As you are getting earler trians back i'll just drive again, makes it easier for me to bring more stuff anyway. This meet up/ event has been posted about on quite a few forums now so its possible a few more people than expected will show up (which is of course fine as long as they are not expecting any kind of show and just want to play a few games )

Didnt see this post. Ive got some spare time tomorrow so i'll go and browse my collection for inspiration and post up a list of comp ideas and we'll chat out a plan

Random idea- a sms themed mystery gift, with a tiny budget. Noone gives wish lists and if we opt in we have to for example obtain qn item including delivery for £5 or €6. Wrap it up and do a draw as to who gets what (labelled so you dont get your own back)
Condition is that we are not restricted to good stuff in collectors condition.
What do we think?

That's pretty much my plan. I'll hit up a Greggs and a few shops I know that sell retro games. And someone needs to be there early to help set up! Is there anywhere that does retro stuff in the city centre at reasonable prices? I don't know anywhere that does retro stuff at reasonable prices, but I still enjoy checking the shops out all the same. Will be interesting to see if this other room we have is any better. If you're cool to meet up a bit earlier when we arrive though that would be good. Have fun organising the games comp. I look forward to just being a participant this year But the previous spreadsheets I put together are on the web site if they help at all. It would be cool if anyone wants to bring any interesting items, like we've done in previous years. I'd love to see a Sega kiosk or one of Playgen's custom multi-carts in action. I've barely even used the 3D glasses so would love to have another go.

I was thinking (for the competition) of new active shutter 3D glasses rather than originals, as the chance of breaking originals is so high. We should discuss this in the competition thread...
As for the gift: that's hard for non-collectors. I have hardly any SMS stuff to hand, and I have no idea of the value of anything.

Only 2 weeks 3 days to go.
Ive been so busy at work lately that I've not even had chance to think about this or the games comp.
Any other thoughts on anything we could do outside of the usual 2 player ad-hoc games and main comp? Or is the usual format good for everyone?

Anyone interested in another helper for set up or meet up?
I live 10 miles away and might not be much use for bringing stuff (my collection is modest in comparison to most others on here) but I know how to plug in a mains adapter and some controllers.
If there is anything interesting that we need duplicates of let me know, any excuse to buy myself an early birthday present for the 13th lol

Setting up isn't a big deal, usually, but getting there earlyish doesn't hurt. I'm going to try to sort out the competition games list next week, if you want an excuse to buy something then a Master Everdrive would be great as it'll cover also bases. I am going to try to get one myself. Otherwise, bring stuff you want to play or trade.

cool, will have a look around for stuff to bring, I think a Master Everdrive might be out of my price range though I think the only 2 player game I have for the ms is F1 I have an idea for the tournament though- a speed round on something like the first course on enduro racer or the first act of the first stage of one of the sonic games (sonic chaos would be particularly quick) or a challenge to get as many rings as possible?

I looked into buying some modern/ compatible 3D glasses but they are a bit pricey to be honest only appeared to be in America. I may bring a spare pair of official ones anyway incase we have a 3D round in the comp.. Or maybe just to try if anyone attending hasn't . Im slightly worried about the availability of TVs this year as a Retro Gamer forum member has decided to have a Retro Gaming event at the same location on the same day despite me advising of the fact. However I think this guy does have regular events there and seems confident we will have enough to go round. On one hand it will mean other stuff going on at the pub if you feel like a change from SMS all day

Yeah, I had a hard time too - I could have sworn a bunch of people were buying them on eBay a few years ago. I've certainly never played in 3D, but it might be a good idea to bring a broken pair for those of us with large heads.
I hope we don't end up with crappy TVs. We only want four or so, but last year there were a few duff ones in there. On the other hand, people driving up probably don't want to be lugging CRTs around...

Yeah I saw that too, I think his name is dave, think he does stuff there quite a lot. I would be inclined to look if any 14 inch crt tv's come up cheap or free, if I don't have to pay for it I could donate it to someone as an authentic retro gaming tv. my gaming tv is a 23 inch lcd as my crt packed in years ago
I don't mind looking for one and bringing up if needed, wouldnt want to spend loads though (mainly as it would only be for one day)
