Do you think the MS had too many platform games? I remember here in the uk in the later days, that's all they were... I suppose churning out bog standard platform games was the easiest way of making money for many developers and the small memory avaliable on the ms was a god send for them.
It's a shame more RPG games weren't produced and some good quailty sports titles too, I'm not talking Super Monaco GP here. The MS has some good footie and golf games, but other sports were negleted Ice Hockey and Volleyball for example.
The NES got Blades Of Steel we got Slap Shot and Championship Hockey. The NES got Punchout, we got Heavyweight Champ and Rocky.
And what about a 2 player scrolling beat-em like they could have done in Streets Of Rage?
A few 3D glasses game would have been nice too, let's face it Outrun 3d is an awfully slow game and Zaxxon is crapper than crap. Why develop new technology and not support it with a decent amount of software? Just like Sega did with the 32X....
All in all I would have given up all the dull platformers for MS version's of Micro Machines 2 and Lemmings 2 any day.....

It´s true that Platform games are the heart of any SMS library (in fact in my top 10 games there are 6 of that genre). But there were also good games in ither genre, like footbal (sensible soccer/Kick off), RPG (P.Star/Ultima 4/ Y´s...), Shoot´em up (R-Type/Sagaia). It wasn´t that bad, the main problem is that we didn´t get the third party suport the nes had.

I agree about the lack of quality sports titles but I actually like Slap Shot.
To be honest SEGA stuck with the same formula in the last few years of the Master System and didn't release games that had originality.

Too true Dezanubee, thats the reason why the SMS wasn't too succesful in the US.
When the Megadrive/Genesis became available, not many were interested in playing mediocre ports when the Megadrive had quality arcade conversions.

Yeah there were loads of platformers released towards the end. I remember the magazines at the time always said "oh, what a suprise, another platformer."
It's similar nowadays with "oh look another crap film liscenced 3D adventure game"

by that time, only the fact that they were realeasing games to the SMS made me happy. I never really made the transition to the 16 bits machines, so i kind of watch the last agonizing years of the SMS (1995/96). I've got a copy of Mean Machines Sega that baisically said goodbye to the Master System, it was sometime in 1994 I think, it was in the editorial. They baisically said "oh and it's bye bye to the Master System this month, you've been great, but it's time to move on...". I'll dig it out sometime.

In Portugal, the last years saw the release of games like Ultima 4 and Phantasy Star that were never released in our country, along with some games from Tec Tot like Sapo Xule. I bought Phantasy Star for 12 euros, eheheh...
