I managed to get up to Nessie, but only scored 207,200 points. Presumably I must have missed a load of collectables. Strangely I found the first world much harder than the second and third worlds. I have to say I found it very tricky to effectively attack enemies using the belly bounce, which made the game a bit frustrating at times (and I did find the lack of music really noticeable).

Stage 3-2 Score: 156,050
Wasted all my lives on the 2nd boss, was trying to corner him on the left hand side but found it easier to corner him on the right hand side for some reason in the end.
Might give it another go tomorrow

Some good scores so far . I'm not surprised to see that no-one has got past Nessy yet, definitely the hardest (although technically the simplest!) part of the game! Keep it up guys, I'm pretty sure my score is gonna be beaten this time, I maybe left too much of a margin for you all !

I had a few goes and once I memorised most things I managed this score: 361,100Damn, so close. I didn't manage to loop level 5-1 to get the multiple bonuses like I wanted to as I lost a couple of lives beforehand. Not sure I want to go through it all again but I might have another go at beating your score. Your boss tips came in very handy! I found a better way to beat Nessie though. You have to take a hit but if you swim to the top right corner so you're behind him, you can repeatedly kick him in the head. You have to be quick so you don't run out of air.

I tried that too with Nessy but kept running out of air, mustn't have been fast enough lol!

I like the idea of having a high score competition for every game you do. I wouldn't have even given Chuck Rock a proper playthrough if it wasn't for this little challenge with the incentives for the next episode. Regardless, I did utterly horrible at this game. lol

I didn't even attempt a High Score with this game after booting up the ROM a few times... I must say, there are very few Euro Only releases that I think are any good. We may have gotten less titles over here in North America, but IMO most of the 3rd party releases were nowhere near as good as Sega's own offerings. Also, to be fair, I don't like Chuck Rock on the Genny/Sega CD either EDIT: On a side note, aside from Nintendo's 3rd party licensing rules at the time, why weren't games like Forgotten Worlds, Dynamite Duke and Alien Storm relased in North America? They were relased around 90-91 the same time they were still releasing a few games for the SMS, plus they WERE being released on the Genesis so licensing shouldn't have been an issue. (especially Alien Storm that was BY Sega)

(especially Alien Storm that was BY Sega) I bought this game just after this SMS quest and I am not too fond of it either to be fair. I think alot of games weren't released in the US just because the SMS wasn't doing very well over there so they just didn't bother. Here in europe it had a massive market share. I only knew one person who had a NES instead of a SMS and everyone took the mick out of his stupid huge brick with crappy colours and massive games

It's not that bad is it? I have a feeling I may have been slightly over praising of this game due to the fact that I'd just played Back To The Future 2 for 2 weeks solid, but still I thought it was pretty good fun I like the idea of having a high score competition for every game you do. I wouldn't have even given Chuck Rock a proper playthrough if it wasn't for this little challenge with the incentives for the next episode. Regardless, I did utterly horrible at this game. lol And my mission is complete . My aim with the SMS Quest is to get people playing more, some people play the games because they think they look good fun, others because they want to beat my score, whichever it is I'm happy . TBH I thought this score was gonna get slaughtered, it's not a particularly hard game once you get used to the controls and I left a huge margin . Next episode's game should make for a good comp

The SMS has such a great selection of platforming games, that its not surprising people don't quite take to Chuck Rock when theres better games in the genre to be played. Its a fairly slow game, and the lack of music really does make a big difference to it. I used to get fed up of playing it pretty quickly as a kid. Even the games title main feature of picking up and throwing things is also done in Castle of Illusion. Its not crap by any means, but not many sms platformers are worse than it either.
