Hopefully coming to the US, these are remakes in 128 bit of old Sega classics like Space Harrier, Phantasy Star, Fantasy Zone, and even Alex Kidd in Miracle World. A few volumns are already out in Japan. I'll be posting a video on the site of a lot of the games in the coming days. Keep your fingers crossed PS2 owners.

Oh wow I've never seen that before, I hope they come to the US. That's kinda like what they did with the first level of Sonic from Gen/MD on Sonic Adventure 2.

I posted a quick review of Fantasy Zone PS2 at SMS Power a few months ago: www.smspower.org/forum/messages/16586.htmlThe updated Fantasy Zone is great at my opinion, and include 4 new levels. Phantasy Star is ok but not extraordinary. Most other upcoming games looks terrible, however I hope they will not ruin Alex Kidd.

Yes, destroying an SMS exclusive like Alex Kidd In Miracle World would be a complete shame. I too hope all goes well with that one.
And Bock, I'd love to have you as a member here. You have posted a lot on the previous forums, so I do hope you choose to become a member here. Your knowledge of the SMS is much apprciated.

I recently got a Magic 3.1 chip installed in my PS2. I have aquired all 5 volumes and will tell you about them. The first volume is Phantasy Star, which pretty much sucks because it is not in English. I wasn't a fan of the original, so I didn't spend any time playing it. Monaco GP is pretty cool, you use the L1 L2 R1 R2 buttons to turn 45 or 90 degrees wicked fast. It's actually very tough to get the hang of. Fantasy Zone is perfect. There is this really cool graphics system (I think it's called cel shading) that the GameCube Zelda game used but sucked badly and also was a bad game. It looks ultra cool in FZ. The music is straight from the Arcade. There are four new levels, which look pretty cool, but the background music isn't that great. There are extra features and models of characters that you can earn in the Challenge Mode, such as the useless, incredibly fast Devil Wings, a barrier, and infinite smart bombs. Space Harrier rules. The background music is a remix of the original theme which sounds super cool. Enemies are animated, and everything moves even smoother than the original. There is a Fractals option, which switches between scenery and the old checkerboard ground. If you play with fractals on, there are extra stages. I haven't beaten the game this way, but two stages are these really cool wormholes, and one is just another bonus stage. You are allowed to continue as many times as you want at stages 6 and 13. Some people have mixed feelings on Golden Axe. The graphics do suck. They aren't much better than N64 quality. However, I believe the music makes up for it. It now sounds like real music, but the tracks are the same as the original arcade game. There are 10 stages. The thief bonus stages are gone. The dwarf no longer kicks ass, either. He is a slow oaf. The girl and tall guy now kick ass. I beat this game last night, and it gets better as you progress through the game. I think it is better than the original in the sense that it is way more challenging (the second Death Adder is unfairly hard, however). Magic is gained from both thieves and killing enemies. The levels are a bit different, also. I think this game is worth it. US customers can find these games easily on Ebay for $30 buy it now (And maybe the first three volumes on IRC, hehehe).

There are easier ways to play Japanese games on PS2 than getting a Japanese PS2 or a modchip. There is a flip-top cover and the Swap Magic Discs available for playing imports. However, this is only good for people who place their PS2 horizontally, which I don't. Now, you guys should have no problem getting these games.

I hope that Wonder Boy 2 & 3 will NOT be cheaply converted by 3D Ages. Those games deserve a better treatment. Note however than Hudson Soft is releasing a set of remake for Gamecube, one of which include Adventure Island, which is more or less Wonder Boy 1. By the way, I played the PS2 Space Harrier this week and thought it really sucked Fantasy Zone is still my favorite of the lot (with Monaco GP and Phantasy Star coming behind).

well, i wouldnt mind any sort of new Wonderboy game. ideally, an all-new Wonderboy game would be ideal, but failing that a 3D update to the classic Wonderboy games would be good to me!

I figured I'd keep you posted: I got Vol. 7: Columns tonight. At first I was like "this sucks, it's just the same as Genesis", but then I tried the other mode, and the jewels look really cool, and everything is smooth. The new music is pretty mellow, too. It's not bad. My problem is that I cant find Vol 6: Bonanza Bros.
