Well I gave it another go and got up to the Graveyard in one sitting. I must say that it is way better than I first thought. Don't know if I'll ever finish it, but it is definitely quality.

That warms my heart, Mr. Prophet. When I first played it I sort of did the same thing as you, but once I sort of bought into the buying the books and hearts, then I was hooked, and all those awesome dungeons and bosses kept me in for the rest of it. Being virtually invisible at the end always helped, too. ;D

I was hooked on it a short while after starting. I played it straight for about 3-4 weeks, and that was using a map guide.

I've never had a chance to really play this. But it looks like a really enjoyable game, it's on my list of games to play once I clear up some time for the current games I have on the list

Well, no one is replying so I'll move on to the next person on the list to get the next game up. Proph's turn.

Proph's been really busy as of late and hasn't really been around in a month. You might want to go to the next person too just so we aren't waiting even longer.

I recently played through this game, I realy liked it. Although it reminds me of some rpg's in the 8bit era this one is pretty addictive.
I like the variation of gameplay and it's not mega hard to figure out. I wish it was a bit bigger that I always have that.
Worth picking up and playing through!

Yeah, the way it changes from overhead to side scroller to top scroller definitely adds variety. It is a pretty big game considering the other 8-bit action RPGs of the time. It certainly took me a week or so to complete, all told!

Heheh, I love it though. I started playing Spellcaster now, man it's a tough one to complete.

Heheh, I love it though. I started playing Spellcaster now, man it's a tough one to complete. It starts off okay, but then gets pretty complicated, convoluted and tedious near the end. I couldn't imagine trying to complete that part at sea without some sort of guide handy. I love the presentation, though - it's definitely original!

I tried Ultima but man it's quite a hastle. Y's I'm also playing now and then but it's not the same. When it comes to the top down action RPGs, you're limited to GOLVELLIUS, GOLDEN AXE WARRIOR and YS. I think all three are masterpieces in their own right, and YS, while it takes some time to warm to since it plays pretty loose for the first bit, is actually quite unique. DRAGON CRYSTAL sort of falls in that genre, but it's more a randomly generated dungeon crawler. Still worth a look. Although not the same, LORD OF THE SWORD, WONDER BOY 2 & 3, SPELLCASTER, and CAPTAIN SILVER are all pretty solid side-scrolling action games with RPG elements. Then there are the turn-based RPGs: PHANTASY STAR, MIRACLE WARRIORS, ULTIMA IV, and HEROES OF THE LANCE. HIGH SCHOOL! KIMENGUMI and THE STORY OF MIO are Japanese only, but there's an English ROM patch at SMSPower for KIMENGUMI. And that, my friend, is basically the abridged history of RPG on the Master System!
