I had a similar problem recently. I've always had a loose Light Phaser that used to work pretty well. After almost ten years, its aim became real messy, especially with Gangster Town -- I was only able to shoot on a certain region of the screen. Other games had similar behavior, but not that drastic. I tried opening it up to see if I could do something, and after changing the lens' position a few times, I found out an "ideal" position for it (which would aim precisely), but it was way out of its original position. After that I was so mad that I bought a sealed one on MercadoLivre.

I had a problem with all my light phasers last week. I was testing my 3D Glasses that I just got with Missle Defense 3D. Aiming right at the screen, no shots would register. I have a regular 24" TV. The only time shots would register is when I went right up to the screen with one of them. And even them sometimes the odd shot wouldn't register.
I remember having the same problem years ago with the aim being off an inch to the left. Now they all seem to be right off the screen. I will try to clean them and take one apart this evening and try again. They used to be so accurate!

Ok so I tried this on my father's tv. I'm still getting some color bars, this time at the bottom of the screen. The gun is more accurate. So I guess I need to get an old tv to play SMS? Obviously something is wrong here, I can't be the only one noticing that SMS is not working with modern tvs? Do you all play your games on 80's tv sets?

You are playing on a normal CRT TV right? - not some flat screen TFT modern one?

Very normal tv, just like in the old days but modern. In fact my father have two tvs. I tried the SMS on both and they give me these colored bars.

Are you in the US? or Europe IF your in the US then your games should be full screen as its NTSC. If your in Europe then the games are in PAL 50hz and dont fill the screen - so you get bars at the top and bottom.

I'm in Canada. I have several old consoles including Colecovision and Genesis. I don't have any problem with my Genesis, the picture is fitting the screen perfectly. Maybe I will try a Power Base Convertor.
