no they are not all the same thing. heres a very basic run down:
sg1000 - sega's first console sg1000-II - basically the same but with expansion capabilities sc-3000 - computer version with built in keyboard, and basic programming capabilities
markIII - much improved graphics chip, backwards compatible, but previous systems cannot play markIII games.
Master system - same as markIII, but has built in FM music for Japan.

The SG-1000 is Sega's first system, from 1983. The original model is the cute rounded one, while the later SG-1000 II (Mark II) looks similar to a Mark III but without the card slot. Both of these only have Japanese RF output, so most European TVs can only get a fuzzy black & white image at best.
The SC-3000 is basically the same hardware in computer form, and was released in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe. It plays the same games as the SG-1000, but it has an RGB-capable AV-out, so they're easier to use over here. The SC-3000H is the same thing but witha "proper" keyboard rather than a membrane one.
SG/SC games are more primitive than the Master System (the technology is similar to the Colecovision or MSX)
The Mark III was the next-generation Sega system, launched in 1985, and is the equivalent of the US/European Master System. The Mark III is backwards-compatible with SG-1000 games.

No you cant play SG1000 cart or card games on your Jap megadrive and converter. The Sg1000 graphics mode was removed from the graphics chip of the megadrive - which is also why F16 fighter doesnt work.
