Why bother? The SMS1 already outputs RGB (which is superior to S-Video) without any modifications. The S-Video mod is only really useful for North Americans, since they can't use an RGB SCART lead.

well is there a cable that u can get from RGB to scart? Yeah, a MegaDrive RGB SCART lead will do the trick (as long as it's not one of the ones that are split for the MD headphone socket). There's always some on eBay for about £10, or you could just drop chaoticjelly a line - I've bought almost all of my RGB leads from him.

You can do that without a modded SMS, just tap the audio from the A/V socket with an inline phono socket or a plug.. its only mono though. Yeah talk to me on MSN or send me an email if you want a cable thund3r. I do make them but just when I can now, as its a lot of work.

I need to mod one of my SMS to RGB or S-video then. I can't use any of the cables found on Ebay.

Can I use a RGB SCART lead for my US Master System? I am lost somewhere.

If you have a US TV then it might not understand an RGB signal. But you can get Svideo or AV (yellow, red and white connectors) leads that plug directly into the master system. If you havent had any luck finding a cable, the connector on the mk1 master system is the same as the mk1 Megadrive/Genesis and Neo Geo AES

If you have a flat screen LCD tv or Plasma, you need an XRGB unit, because you dont use SCART in the USA, an XRGB will upscale the image, as well as providing output via VGA which your TV should support.
If you have an old TV your pretty much screwed.
Ive heard people using old Commodore monitors, allthough these have RGB, its usually via a circular DIN connector (Like the Master Systems AV port)
So in short, you can use an RGB Scart cable for your US master system, but you have to find some way to get the scart picture to your TV.....
Hope this helps!

Do you have component video? I use a RGB -> Component Transcoder and a RGB SCART with my Genesis. Works great. There's a guy who sells them from Florida, and it works great. You'd need to mod it for audio, but I don't as I only use it with my Genesis systems. but I can post pix of a friends audio mod that will help you -- only three wires to solder. But mine is different than his, as I have to break the whole thing open just to get to the circut board to mod it for audio. Some dude from Australia sells the one a friend uses, and he easily modded his. Or you can use a XMD-2... which I think DOES S-video... cgi.ebay.com/XMD-2-RGB-S-unit-for-Mega-Drive-1-MEGA-DRIVE_W0QQitemZ300036942586QQihZ020QQcategoryZ4315QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemIt is for the Genesis, but should work?

It's $99US to mod an SMS or Genesis with S-Video and stereo audio (Genesis only). S-Video produces better images than the composite cable the machines originally use. But for the SMS, is it really worth it? The graphics are nothing to fawn over to start with. I'll have to learn what an RGB SCART thingy is.
