Thats a whole lot of money, I wouldnt bother. I use a composite cable with my console and think it gives a great image. Sure Scart can give a clearer image, but the slight blurring you get with composite actually works well - since sms has a low resolution and number of colours.

In North America we don't use SCART for some reason or another. Does any one know why? I've never found a reason why, or a clear answer.
Japan also uses a connector like SCART, but the pinout is different and the devices aren't compatable with one another, unless you rewire the device and that is nearly impossable. Keep that in mind... it'll cost you $80+ for a First Party (made by Sony) Japanese RGB cable for a PSone, while you could get a PS1 SCART cable for next to nothing. I don't know why Japanese devices are different than European devices... but I would presume cross importation - the japanese devices are much more expensive, and the goverment doesn't want japanese companies to lose out on sales because of people importing something from europe.
You can buy a SCART -> Component Transcoder for less than $99 much from a guy in Florida... and go to a store and get a universal AC adaptor for peanuts, as the AC adaptor has a different plug. I can tell you the voltage if need be, so you can go to a store and buy a AC Adaptor... most any universal one will have the right tip and voltage. And you can use it with your other systems also. I'm looking at using it with my Sega Saturn, and a SMS when I get one - I use it right now for my Sega Genesis.
You'll have to mod it for audio, unless you can get the audio out of the system like a Sega Genesis 1 with the headpone jack. but it's really easy to mod for audio just get a RCA audio cable, drill a hole in the case, and solder three wires. The one I bought, you'll have to bend the metal so you can get the thing out, and just be sure to unscrew all of the screws.
A friend has a Transcoder, and all of the Transcoders are pretty much the same... my board looks different than his, but the quality is great.

Sounds like a lot of work. It may be more expensive, but it's much easier to get the place in Edmonton to mod the Genesis for me

I'd been wanting to use RGB scart with my SMS 1 for ages, but couldn't find my MD1 RGB scart anywhere. I was looking in my 32X box and found an analog output to MD2 RGB scart cable, result!
I've only played Kung Fu Kid where there is a huge difference between composite and RGB; interestingly there was very little difference on Castle of Illusion. Given my experience of RGB vs composite SNES, MD, Jaguar, GX4000, I'd say it's well worth investing it the appropriate cables.
The thing is, I never had an SMS 1 back in the day and would rather use the SMS 2 for nostalgia's sake - where can I find instructions on modding an SMS 2?
