I propose that we move ebay tags to the Wants and trades section and password protect sms on ebay so only people on ebay tags can view it. That way we will see an increase the amount of "lurkers" joining the forum and ebay tags. Hopefully by doing this there will be a decrease in the price of items posted on the forum. Because as we all know and have seen items posted on the forum tend to go for quite a bit more than items that have not been posted. What do you guys think?

I think it's a good idea but should not be limited to just people in the tags list, not everyone on the forum wants to be part of the tags thing. Perhaps just tags list and other long serving (and trusted) users. so sombody who just joins up to read the ebay links and never contributes shouldnt benefit, same with lurkers. .hopfully this will push some lurkers to join up and get talking

That's a decent idea. Maybe access could be limited to members in good standing with at least a certain number of posts.

I like it too. I assume play and Andy will jump in to say something soon, let's see.

i hate the idea of the eBay tags. in the good 'ol days a forum member used to wait until the last minute to bid in order to try and avoid a higher final price, but now the same member puts in a bid within the first few minutes of the new listing and no other forum member bids because he's on the 'tags list'. as a matter of fact, all i have to do now is perform an advanced search by bidder and i can see all the juicy items a member is bidding on, just because he put down a 10p bid so as to be the first bidding member of the tags list. crap- if you want it and are prepared to pay for it then BID. nothing like a bit of a bidding rush- that's the fun of eBay. well it used to be! anyway, just 'cos i'm not on the tags list, why should i be 'stopped' from seeing what the prized items of the week are? i don't buy much SMS on ebay, but i'd still like to 'window shop'. (so i agree with Rupert). stop this rubbish guys

Rupert and I have already had a conversation about this. I agree that I don't like the idea of lurkers finding all the best items posted on here.
Saying that, the Ebay tags system protects only people who are members of this system. Bidding against a lurker is no different than bidding against anyone on ebay.
I also have some reservations as to how the password system would work. The most obvious way would be by number of posts, but this alienates newer members. If we were to do such a system the eBay tags list would have to be cut down, and members would need to firstly qualify to be on that list. From there we can decide who gets access. But this would need to all be done manually, PMs sent to each qualifying member. I'm sorry but I don't think I have time for this at the moment. Even after all this, passwords are easily shared, who is to say that anyone wouldn't give it out?
The other option is that we keep existing forums, and create a new private forum for our more dedicated members; they can post anything they want to be kept quiet in there. But I don't like the way this creates divisions on the forum.

to be honest i'm not that bothered about the tags system. as said above it means showing your cards early so you have 'dibs' on the item. Even befor the tags system arrived I would PM a person I knew if they were bidding on somthing I wanted and we would sort somthing out.. so the tags havent changed much for me (I dont think?). If anything all the tags list does is jog my memory of who's who on ebay. If I really really wanted somthing I know the system would be out of the window becasue I'd heve to have a go So going forward.. Perhaps scrapping the tags and introducing a password system on the ebay thread, only granting access to the old tag scheme users and other long standing good forum users. So if sombody feels missed out they can simply PM Andy and exlplain there case for access (which will probly amount to.. Ive been here for a wile and post quite offten so give me my password you a child conceived out of wedlock ;D ) and everyones happy.. except the lurkers and retro boy.

Why not just do a poll and let the members decide?
I'm not bothered either way TBH, i find most of the items that are posted before-hand. It might help to stop prices getting pushed up though so it could be a good thing.
