I have to agree with Sinistral on this too - I really don't see what censorship is applied on the forum except for swearing which, given that the forum hopes to attract people of all ages (under 18's included) is just proper! I've seen virtually no censorship other than that in the 2 years I've been a member and several months before that I lurked before signing up! On a slightly similar point - trying to keep the forum at least marginally to do with the SMS and sega is not censorship, it's trying to keep the forum what it is supposed to be - a Master System related forum!! Others may not agree, but that's my take on it!

"Why punish those of us who like having high-resolutions scans just because some sellers might abuse the system."What do you use high res scans for? Like Playgen said, just go buy the games. They aren't that expensive. Sellers are abusing the system. Think of it as a preservation effort, since I think that is SMS Power!'s main goal. The better quality the scans, the better preserved they will be. I'm pretty sure SMS Power!'s goal is not so users can print out their own covers. I like high-resolution scans because I'm really into variations; with low quality scans, it can sometimes be difficult to tell them apart (I'm talking about things like ©, ® and "sm" marks, etc). "...there are times and places for it. I wouldn't class this forum as either."I would. Apparently this is just wishful thinking though. I guess that I think of this forum as a free community. We have our own little niche here and I think that free speech should be allowed. It is not just an informational database with the singular goal of gaining new members. The off topic section is often the most entertaining section of the forum. I have touched on this before, but it seems like I am in the minority with this opinion. That's ok, I will conform to whatever censorship and rules that are applied here because this is a great forum. I wouldn't go so far as using the terms "censored" and "free speech" (they're a little too loaded for my liking), but I can see what you're getting at. There's a fine balance between a "stiff"/"stuffy" forum (I hate to say it, but SMS Power! feels like that - to me, at least) and a much more open forum when anything goes. You have to leave people enough room to discuss topics outside of the normal area (that's where the "off topic" forum comes in), but discourage things which are below the limit of "decency". That limit will differ from person to person, which makes the task somewhat more difficult. I think the balance of this forum is just right. I'm not suggesting certain topics of discussions should be out-right banned -- I really don't like censorship (that excludes the way this forum handles swearing - that's funny) -- but I don't have a problem with some things being discouraged. Some people like to talk about faeces and that's fine -- people should be free to discuss what they want -- but I feel that such things don't sit right with this community. That is of course my own opinion - some will agree, some won't. I know I'm not providing any answers to the problems, I'm just trying to say that having admins who have quite different ideas of what should and shouldn't fly in terms of forum conversation is not a good way the help the situation.

I'm sorry if you feel the site and forum has become strict. All we are trying to do is keep the forum open to everyone. It's not too strict really. In fact, I prefer the swear substitutes to the actual swears. My favorite is a child conceived out of wedlock . Love it. My statement was more in reference to threads like fistula gate. I think that is the place for such discussions. I know that a lot of you disagree with me here, but the man needed support for crying out loud. If my posterior was sprouting new orifices, I would want you guys to support me. Opposition to such topics (ie censoring the word "pernickity") just serves to minimize the feeling of "community." There is an off topic section for a reason. Holy crap, I digress... wasn't I talking about box scans?

I don't think this site is at all strict. + Rupert would be a great mod, his SMS collection and knowledge could only help the site in the longrun.

Why not just surgest those things to Bock if you feel it would make a difference? Because I do not care much for that site. The navigation is awkward, and I barely visit it. However, if I want to see a games cover, I have to since this site is unwilling to have any sort of cover images. P.S. I would like to nominate eday for admin. As rupert recently said, "(he is) one of sega8bit's main peeps." He seems to have some webmaster type knowledge and I think that he would bring some much needed balance to the site. No offense, but it has been a tad puritanical around here lately. That is just my humble opinion and it could be the death of us all . While I'm at it I might as well mention that Rup should be an admin too. Discuss. How sweet . However, even if they were offered to me, which they won't be, I almost certainly would not accept them. Most know my views about this site (great content, horrible look), and on the censorship (stupid that "pernickity" is censored, but not "cock" - the Fistula post is the greatest thread on these forums!). Me not having admin powers means that everything can stay the same, and that my opinions will be nothing more than words. I already have God powers at Sega16Bit, where changes are needed and welcomed, so I can actually get stuff done to make the site better since it has the same layout as this one. People here are happy with the staus quo, and having me as an admin would disrupt that . It's not too strict really. In fact, I prefer the swear substitutes to the actual swears. My favorite is a child conceived out of wedlock . Love it. I still think this should be changed to remove the "a", since it makes an awkward sentence. "I got outbid at the last minutes by some a child conceived out of wedlock on that a child conceived out of wedlock game!" As for the games, I believe I also suggested small cover scans to go on the pages of each game so the user can see what the game cover looks like instead of just the title screen and a couple other screen shots. This idea was turned down, again with "SMS Power blah blah blah". There is nothing wrong with making this site a one stop destination for all the information someone would want. Sure, have links to the other sites, but there is no need to have someone visit 2 or three sites to get the info they are looking for when it could be housed on one site. I think most people here would be annoyed if eBay made you sign into a webmail site in order to contact a seller. This is an idea I will propose to my collegues at 16bit. I personally don't care if the images are 1200 pixels wide or 640 pixels wide; as long as there is something.

I agree with eday but i also think that if there were scans of the variations the variations should be highlighted or circled and should all be a uniform size.

Fistula gate? I don't seem to remember anyone actually complaining about it, I was just looking for a little support before my potentially life ruining surgery. Turned out fine, but I thought I'd share. Jeez. As for censorship I really don't know what you're talking about, most talk here is pretty free though we occasionally have gotten into teeny arguments over the usage of the word 'gay'.

wow, I just read this thread (for the 1st time) and the last few posts have really got me feeling old! I REMEMBER WHEN THE WORD GAY MEANT HAPPY & MERRY! ;D
plus I dont think I have seen much censorship, just a bit of common sense (a forbidden concept in this day & age) over swearing.
Long live the master system!!!

Once again your prove yourself to be a mature member of this community, who without a shadow of a doubt should be given admin powers. I'm sure I have, I'm sure I have . I'd be Stan 2.0
