Hi, I think that you should have a game cover scan page where people can upload scans. Because i had sonic unboxed and i had an old box and i want to print a cover for that box to hold sonic in. Regards, biltho

Regards, biltho Several people have mentioned it, including myself, but the idea keeps getting shot down because SMS Power already has scans. I personally think this site could do it better, but it's not for me to decide

Well, I guess, but what's the point? How could we really do it better?

Cleaner layout, better organized, standard image size (like 1200 pixels in height, since with will vary depending on if the game is a cartridge or card). Just better. I cannot stand the way it is done on SMS Power. It looks like a mish-mash. Scanned carts and manuals should be on a separate page. But anyhow...

Why not just surgest those things to Bock if you feel it would make a difference?

Why not just surgest those things to Bock if you feel it would make a difference? I think the scans section is Maxim's baby. He does request everyone scan in a certain dpi etc but not everyone does, perhaps there equipment isnt good enough or they just want to do a quick job. Scanning can be very time consuming. I quite like the set up on there and Ive always found it easy to use. The only thing I can see being sensible is linking a thumbnail image of the scan from this site to the full size scan on there site.

I think Smspower does it very well, but then I don't see it as a scan resource for printing covers you're missing, but as a way to quickly view all the different covers of games avaliable and variations of. Really though whats the point in having high resolutuion scans of most sms games avaliable to print when the games are cheap anyway, fair enough for tectoy games and so on, but a waste of bandwidth supplying everything in massive DPI.

Also I don't know about anyone else but I'd feel somehow cheated if I got a game off ebay/trading to find it had a scanned cover.

Really though whats the point in having high resolutuion scans of most sms games avaliable to print when the games are cheap anyway, fair enough for tectoy games and so on, but a waste of bandwidth supplying everything in massive DPI. I would personally prefer the scans to be at a lower res. If they are truly meant for reference only, there is no need for bandwidth sucking high res. I bought a game with a scanned cover on ebay once and it really pissed me off. There are some sellers on US ebay who regularly sell games with scanned covers. I almost bought a CB "tec toy" lemmings a few months ago but, as it turned out, it was just a loose euro cart with a scanned cover from SMS Power. That stinks out loud. I know that our community is small right now, but it is only going to grow over time as more people realize that they love the master system and want to re-capture their youth. With that impending growth, there will be more and more sellers who are tempted to use scanned covers. P.S. I would like to nominate eday for admin. As rupert recently said, "(he is) one of sega8bit's main peeps." He seems to have some webmaster type knowledge and I think that he would bring some much needed balance to the site. No offense, but it has been a tad puritanical around here lately. That is just my humble opinion and it could be the death of us all . While I'm at it I might as well mention that Rup should be an admin too. Discuss.

I would personally prefer the scans to be at a lower res. If they are truly meant for reference only, there is no need for bandwidth sucking high res. In the near future, what is high-resolution now will be low-resolution. Remember when 640 x 480 was a high-resolution? I do. I'm using 1600x1200 and that's not even high-resolution these days. We might as well start using decently sized images now, rather than having to rescan them later. Have you seen the older images on SMS Power!? They're not very good compared to the newer ones, which is why they are being replaced with rescans. I know that our community is small right now, but it is only going to grow over time as more people realize that they love the master system and want to re-capture their youth. With that impending growth, there will be more and more sellers who are tempted to use scanned covers. That's not a valid argument against having high-resolution scans... Why punish those of us who like having high-resolutions scans just because some sellers might abuse the system. It's like suggesting that rippings CDs should be illegal (not that it is legal everywhere) because some people might (and admittedly do) share their music with others. But that's no reason to penalize those of us who like having digital copies to save us having to mess around with hundreds of CDs. P.S. I would like to nominate eday for admin. As rupert recently said, "(he is) one of sega8bit's main peeps." He seems to have some webmaster type knowledge and I think that he would bring some much needed balance to the site. No offense, but it has been a tad puritanical around here lately. That is just my humble opinion and it could be the death of us all ;). While I'm at it I might as well mention that Rup should be an admin too. Discuss. While I agree that excessive strictness is counter-productive, I wouldn't say I've seen such behaviour exhibited on this forum. Strictness; sure. Excessive; not at all. I would also suggest that having puerile topics and "discussions" is also counter-productive, so a certain level of strictness is required - and I think that level has been reached. While there's nothing wrong with base humour (I love it), there are times and places for it. I wouldn't class this forum as either.

Well rebutted Aypok . I do, however, still differ with you on a few points. "Why punish those of us who like having high-resolutions scans just because some sellers might abuse the system."What do you use high res scans for? Like Playgen said, just go buy the games. They aren't that expensive. Sellers are abusing the system. "...there are times and places for it. I wouldn't class this forum as either."I would. Apparently this is just wishful thinking though. I guess that I think of this forum as a free community. We have our own little niche here and I think that free speech should be allowed. It is not just an informational database with the singular goal of gaining new members. The off topic section is often the most entertaining section of the forum. I have touched on this before, but it seems like I am in the minority with this opinion. That's ok, I will conform to whatever censorship and rules that are applied here because this is a great forum. I like to stir up trouble every once in a while... but it is always aimed at making this a better place to be.

There practically is no censorship on here. The only posts that get removed are obscene ones with racist nonsense in it for example. While you can't swear on here, all that does is help you enlarge your vocabulary. Instead of having posts lazily written full of swear words, if you want to be derogatory towards something you can use your imagination and make up a word, or use *%&/#*! like Qbert, or swear words turned inoffensive like on Father Ted - Feck!

If only for a small picture that could be added in our "related files” for each game this wouldn't be a problem. The trouble is once you start doing this people then start asking for better quality ones. Eventually we'd be doing the exact same thing as smspower. I'd much prefer if sega8bit focused on promoting the playing of the games rather than just looking at their boxes. I feel your pain! I too have been a victim of this, but since It was a fairly common game and I was more interested in playing the game it didn't matter really. I think this is going to start happening a lot more as sms games get older and more covers start to go yellow. We can only hope the site and fanbase continues to grow. It seems to be staying around the same size for the moment. For every new person that comes along it seems someone leaves. I'm not commenting on eday , but Rupert knows this is an option for him. I'm sorry if you feel the site and forum has become strict. All we are trying to do is keep the forum open to everyone.
