I thinka rarity list would cover all games released in Brazil.

I thinka rarity list would cover all games released in Brazil. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Thanks for the offers of help guys - I'll find some time over the next week to get back to you about it and outline the method...

My observations - for what they're worth. 1. Rarity guide could be a good idea if done properly, but it is going to be very difficult for us to get accurate stats. 2. Bank transfer is not always a feasible option - Over half of UK banks won't transfer to Brazil as for some reason they don't have R$ on their system. (I know that the HBOS group can't for that reason). Bankers Draft is out for the same reason as for Brazilians to exchange $25 US actually carries a fee of around the same price. The easiest method by far at present is simply Brzilian currency in an envelope sent registered! (unless you're lucky enough to have a bank that will transfer AND not charge you a rediculously high fee). 3. Where would the guide stand on the cardboard box releases there as opposed to hard box? Obviosuly they are a LOT rarer to get - especially in good condition. As somebody once said here - why is it that you can only seem to find tec toy games that either are immaculate, mint and sealed, or the opposite extreme look like they've been used to shovel rocks!! 4. We'd have to be careful that the guide is done in such a way not to push prices up across the board. 5. I can't understand for the life of me why paypal is not used over there - after all, mercado is an ebay company!!! 6. A quick guide to using Mercado could be a useful supplement to the rarity guide! 7. Postage is no more expensive than from US - anyone from over there that tells you otherwise is lying. I've had countless items sent over here - for example, 4 games I recieved recently cost a total of R$37 shipping (the equivelant of about £10). It can take a bit of time though - (usually around 2 - 3 weeks on average I've found) - to get stuff that's been sent. Combined with the fact that most games and systems are MUCH cheaper there than here, you can usually pick up a lot of bargains. All in all I think it's a great idea, and I'll certainly help if asked!

I was also thinking an article about Mercado would be a great idea, but since I have never used it I may not be the best person! I figured the best way to get stats would be to monitor Mercado as i don't know of any other Brazilan sources for SMS stuff. As for the cardboard boxes thing I think that would be a little too detailed and could lead to stupid NES style collecting.

Well, I could help on the article as well. And let me ask this, as we have a totally different word for this here: those "cardboard" boxes you're talking about would be those... umm... "paper" boxes...?

Cardboard is a slightly thicker version of paper.

Yeah, I supposed so... thanks. Damn, there are four or five of those sealed as new available right now on MercadoLivre... They're finishing soon, but I can't buy any right now -- pity...

I could do a nice article about Mercado. Some sellers do take Paypal there, and that's really the only way to go unless you have a friend in Brazil. I've heard numerous stolen money stories from buyers bidding on Mercado from other countries.

I honestly don't think discussing the rarity of those cardboard boxed games would ever lead to NES type collecting - they are in a tiny minority compared to the rest of the SMS market - whereas for the nes, that's pretty much all there is! They will always be viewed as varients in my, and I think most people's eyes.

tbh, I don't how good an idea an article about ML would be - anyone with half a brain and Google Language Tools can figure out how to use it, and giving a step-by-step guide would just lead to increased competition and inflated prices all round, not to mention pissing off a lot a Brazilians when hordes of Westerners descend and outbid them on everything...
As for cardboard box games - I'm interested finding out which games were released like that and which were also re-released with plastic covers, but wouldn't want to give them separate scarcity ratings.

I dont think theres exactly hoardes of people who visit this site who would invade mercadio had they a bit more knowledge about it. Its the lack of Paypal that really stops people using it, not the language difference - after all it doesnt stop most of using foreign ebay sites.
Having said that - the more information there is the more people will want the games. So if you've got your heart set on getting games like mickeys ultimate challenge - a guide on how to get it and a high position on a rarity list, will only make your challenge more difficult.

Are you insinuating I only posses half a brain anagram!? Maybe this varients with the cardboard thing is something Rupert might like to have a look into as he does seem to be the one who is most likly to get some of them.

I dunno Anagrama, I honestly think there are a lot of people out there who don't even know mercado exists let alone how to use it! Plus, there are a few differences with buying on ebay (the MUCH shorter timescale you have to leave feedback, the fact that it is not a rhetorical feedback system which is a LOT better than our ebay one etc.) I also don't see it being flooded with hoardes of Europeans, as a lot of people simply can't be bothered with the hassle of international shipping and having to translate, as well as the payment issue (ie not a lot of good options for us over here). I still think it would be a nice feature - even if it weren't on the main site but was just a short article or something...

By the way, do you guys have an equivalent list for European releases or you just judge by how often some games pop up on eBay...?
I think the idea of a short article, at least, as kungfukid suggests, is a nice one. I doubt very much that loads of people would start buying stuff here (therefore possibly outbidding me!) just because they read some information here or there -- shipping and actually paying would quickly stop them, as many have stated.

I think if were including a note about the ones that were also available in cardboard then we should also have notes for the ones that were re-released in blue boxes (i.e. gangster town and alterd beast) as its just as much a variation. it's not just blue, the whole picture on the front is totally diffrent.
