Okday since this site seems to have a large influence on how much people think a game is worth and it is becoming far more common how about lowering Smurfs 2 from "9" to "8", I know this may seem a pit of a peti thing, but it may stop the bidding frenzys over that particular game, and as far as I can tell more people own Smurfs 2 than Ariel or Mak - Jong.

Its all a matter of opinion, and where you live. While Ariel seems rare to us, to anyone in Brazil im sure its more common than smurfs2. A rarity rating of 8 would put it in the same league as T2 arcade, which is a £10 game. To be honest i dont think having a rarity list helps anyone really, it over-hypes rarity and drives up prices. Id prefer to see people asking advice on rare games rather than relying on a rarity list.

Yep, whereas I used to love the rarity list it now seems to be teh bane of my existance! It drives up prices, I can now see what everyone meant about how if I wrote a book it would be a bad idea to have this sort of thing.

And i think its fair to say less people have Mahjong, because less people want it. It had a release in Japan which is cheap to get, so youd be paying £200 odd for a different insert and maunal, and as its not in english, still not be able to play it anyway.

Fair enough, just thought it might lower the insane prices a bit + it has become a bit of a showboat item.

I am in favor of getting rid of the rarity list. The fact of the matter is what any two people are willing to pay for it at any one time, What and only that determines the value you will get. Wonderboy III - Rarity 1 - Often Sells around £5/£10 T2 Arcade - Rarity 8 - We have a copy now with no inst in the shop for £5 Where is the sense in that? I think the first Mah Jong that I saw listed on EBay was started at £1.00 with no reserve or BIN and the seller had no idea what he was selling. I offerend the guy £20 and he was gunna end the listing but has about 10 more offers and decided to let it run. Now, due partially to lists like the one here, anyone who wants to find out can come here, ready the posts and start it at £150 with no bother. DUMP THE LIST!

I'm sorry guys. There's no way I'm taking down that list after all the work that went into gathering those figures, creating a database to house them and then listing them all. It's funny your tunes have all changed, a couple years ago your were all screaming for one.
I have to say that this site is not the only site with SMS rarity lists. I think tbh more people take notice of the lists at digital press than they do here.
Kiff, I think you are getting rare games confused with games that are popular and in demand. A game having a higher rarity does not necessary mean its worth more.

Well at least theres no prices on the list which is a good thing. Really you can get any game for a decent price if your prepared to wait and look hard enough. My advice is get the most enjoyable games first, and then if your still determined to get the rarer games do so. Krooper - i see you dont have Alex Kidd n Shinobi world yet, thats a vastly superior game to Smurfs2, why not pick up games like that, and leave smurfs2 untill you either have more funds or luck brings you one cheaply

i have used the rarity list loads when i was building my collection so I guess your opinions about it change when you have most of the items on it. a new collector would not have a clue were to start or what might be a good buy on ebay. so for them its great. its just crappy when it gets abused by people out to make a quick 'buck'

Yep, I know I sure don't have any interest in getting it. Any game that I can't play is useless to me.

I don't think the rarity list really affects the prices the games for to be honest, doesn't stop you still finding real bargains anyway. You'll still get BIN's from people who don't realise how rare a particular game is - even Smurfs 2 as the fact someone put it in that auction yesterday with a few other game - it just means you have to be a little more lucky to spot the bargains first! lol. But I honestly think that's part of the fun of the collecting!

The only reason the rarity list seems pointless to you now is because you have been collecting for a while The rarity list is the best feature the site has to offer to new collectors As for saying the Smurfs 2 should be put down to a rarity 8 then a statement like this must mean you have one? oh so you dont have one and cant find one for love or money? point put to rest Yes it has made the odd appearance on ebay but as you noticed they all seem to vanish before the auction ends yet we dont hear of any collectors getting them! strange Think of it this way, i could get 4 mystery sellers i know over the next six months to list "master system with 10 games" stick my smurfs in the picture and get them to end it early so everyone thinks that some lucky sod has grabbed it yet you also think its not as rare, so you will be wanting to pay less leaving the market open wide for me to get it Its just a thought...
