I was just wandering if there are any plans to put cover scans on the Sega8bit site? As it would be great if all of the covers could be displayed with the game and then how rare they are (ie Brazilian one 4, US one 2, Euro one 7 or whatever).

It would take up a massive amount of webspace to put up decent quality scans of every game, even if you ignored variations and such. I think this feature is well and truly covered by smspower, it would be a bit pointless repeating their work i would have thought.

Well, we don't have any of these because SMS POWER! already had this project running. Like Playgeneration says - there's no point in duplicating somebody else's work. Anyone who wants to scan box art would be better off submitting to SMS POWER! Although we do have "unlimited" webspace on this account. I don't really want to give them an excuse take us down. This is the same reason we don't have ROMS on the main site. I have a little SMS POWER! ROMS mirror running though on my home machine using NO IP. I haven't told Bock about this yet because I wanted to make sure this little PC being on all the time wouldn't annoy me silly first www.sega8bit.servebeer.com

I dont mean we should try to compete, I just think that if the site had more info it would be a greater resource, the present layout of sega8bit would be perfect if you ever wanted to expand the things already on there.
But I realise it may seem pointless as its already avaliable elsewhere. All in all I love the site and its really great for sms info with a great forum community, its just the only thing Im interested in SMS wise that is not already on here is cover scans.

I see your point Krooper13 but I'm not sure it's possible. As Playgeneration says it takes up a great deal of space to store images of cover scans. We just presently don't have that kind of resources at our disposal. I would rather see more people submitting scans to SMS POWER! and firstly completing their scan archive. When I started Sega8bit the primary goal of the site was going to be to provide user reviews from SMS fans. Although those alone no longer make up the entire website they still form a significant part of it. We currently have quite a lot of projects running. We have the Top 100, Characters shrine, Members collections, and Members bios. All of these sections still need a lot of work and there is still a great deal that of content that can be added to the existing database. Although I would love to one day see box scans on there I would like to first try and fulfil the site's original aim - To review every SMS game.

The cover scans wouldn't have to be high quality, printable scans. they could be simple thumbnail images that take 5k at the most that could go on the game info page so some newb or someone getting back into SMS stuff would know what each voer looked like. Sometimes the horrid drawing on the front is easier to remember than the name of the game.

If bock doesnt mind you could use a link to sms power scans when you click on said cover.
