Here we are again! After a week of puzzling and cannoning and annoyinging, it's time for a game anew! This one comes from a individual a little out of the weather, a little OUT OF SEASON. Get it? A little, out of the sun. A little, covered in snow! SNOWBLIND! And what game will he provide for our enjoyment? Fire & Ice? Nah, too rare. Well, what then?

First of all I'd like to thank anyone who managed to get through Stan's bad jokes and made it this far. =Þ My second choice for GOTW is among what I consider to be the top tier of Master System games, games which despite being on an 8-bit system can stand up to today's games on the pure strength of their gameplay. Alongside Sonic the Hedgehog and Alex Kidd in Miracle World, a game which makes me proud to openly be a Master System fan to this day is: Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap!I was surprised that this hadn't been a GOTW before now. Every single aspect of it is great - the gameplay is strong from start to finish; the concept of changing forms to access different abilities and new areas is very well implimented; the graphics and design are imaginative and compelling while the music is catchy and memorable. I especially love how inventive and non-linear it feels. The game begins where the previous game, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, ended, you're thrown immediately into a boss battle which leaves you cursed. Now a monster, fight through dangerous lands in a quest to regain your humanity. It's a hell of an adventure. Enjoy.

it surprises me too, but i guess everyone prefers to choose less known games. You choose an excelent game that i will have to play because it´s been a long time since i´ve played it...

fantastic choice. This is one of the greatest games ever made for any console. Absolutely fantastic. Mouseman is my favourite

I remember seeing this at Toys R Us, must've been late 1989 or early 1990. They used to have these huge video game displays an aisle long, with a bunch of systems set up and WBIII was on one of them. A fellow SMS player and I were pretty amazed at how it looked. I probably played it within a month or two after that. While an amazing game, very large and varied, I still prefer WBIML for its arcade roots. Sometimes WBIII just seems to take too long to play through. Anyone played the TG16/PCE version, Dragon's Curse? I liked the slightly better graphics and smoother framerate. OK so I am mentioning framerate in an 8-bit platformer - but I do find WBIII to be blurry. Still an awesome game though!

Heh... I was actually going to choose this, but decided to go with something more obscure.
Anyway, this game is great. It has great cartoon like graphics for the characters and monsters. The levels are all fun and use each characters abilities pretty well, except maybe the pirahna man level. Music is very easy on the ears and control is very tight. It's probably cause I've played this one so much, but the game could be a bit longer, as the game can be beaten in one sitting. I still love it though!
Lionman is the balls!
Defintely one of the top tier SMS games, hell it's one of the best 8-bit games even.

Not a huge fan of this game. I find that 'jump' isnt high or accurate enough and you have to be closer to the enemies to kill them compared to others. That being said, I admit I havent given this game enough of a go... but due to uni and work I doubt I'll be able to do it this week.
I totally prefer WB in ML, but still, a nice choice Snowblind.

Bit late to the punch this time, but I can only echo the previous comments entirely - finest Wonder Boy without a doubt, and a string contender for the "Best 8-bit platformer" title. It does just about everything right, my only minor niggle is that it's sometimes hard to recover from an underwater hit without getting stuck on top of a beastie. This is one game for which I'd really love to see one of those massive game-world maps compiled from dozens of individual screenshots

I don't know, I only played it a bit (I refuse to run through it without first completing Monster Land), but I like Monster World the best out of the series. It's an excellent game with just superb graphics in my opinion. III is great, but I'd say it's my third favorite out of all of them. It's a good game I've heard and I really shouldn't make too much of a judgement without playing through it, but based on what I've seen that's what I think.
