Well, I've made it to the end, but not to the final boss, mainly because the lion boss is easiest to kill with dynamite and you can't find any in the last level. Okay, here's my final say for now. Game is good, but it can seem a bit repetitive as you go on because you fight the same enemies over and over in generally the same levels. Still, it's a lot of fun, just has the potential to seem tedious to some people I think. For the lion boss, here's what I figured out. They do two small hops and then a large one. Basically, strike as soon as it approaches you with the short hops. When you hit it stops dead in its tracks and moves to hop again. Seems to work every time for the short hops, but not much at all for the longer ones, so hit for the short and then move out of the way for the long ones.

Hey, wait a second, big problem here. So you get to the last level, cool and everything, but, ummm, those are freaking NAZCA line drawings on the ground! The Aztecs didn't do that!!!! Fools!!!!!!!

Perhaps that's why the game's Japanese name is Nazca '88?

Not to do with the game but I have a fairly large Nazca condor tattoo on my upper left arm.

Egad, I forgot about that! I assume the answer to this riddle is thus. Japanese children actually know what the Nazcan culture is, so the title wouldn't matter. I don't think many American kids would have figured out what in the world "Nazcan Adventure" meant. Perhaps they should have just avoided the problem entirely by making the designs on the ground Aztec instead of Nazcan. Oh well.

Been enjoying this one for the last few days - it's got a bunch of neat touches (bribing your opponents is simply genius), and presents a real challenge. Only made it to the 4th level so far, and I may buckle and use the underhand Stepanic method to see it all by the end of the week Slightly ropey collision detection as others have mentioned and the overall speed is maybe a touch slow, but once again the GotW has uncovered another hidden (to me at least) gem

My trick does work on the lion boss. Hit twice, but make sure you're above him because he'll jump up towards you. If you're right in line he'll still hit you, but if you're above you'll hit him first. That final boss is totally lame, I was quite disappointed with it. You look at it and think wow what will this do and when you finally see you're like come on guys, what the hell? Still, it has a pretty cool ending.

Got my copy through today!! Just played it for 20 minutes or so, it's got a strange kind of golvellius vibe going on, except a bit more cheery and with worse music. There's something fantastic about paying animals in hats to take beatings for you.
Got to the second level, aaalll good so far.

I've been playing this one the last few days. Finally finished it. Most of it is reasonable, but man, the last few levels are just insanely difficult. Considering it all just gets repetitive at that point too, I think the game would have been better had those levels been axed. I really liked the water blob boss - some really good strategy there, mapping out his moves and preempting his attacks. Most of the other bosses though, were either too easy (plant, sphinx, dude with the rotating orbs around him) or too frustratingly erratic (lion, bird). It's funny though, because as Stan said, once you get to the final boss it becomes the ultimate in ant-climax. Those little snake dudes are tougher to kill than big bertha at the end.
At first the music was really loud and bombastic, but you know, it grew on me. I was humming it around the kitchen and my girlfriend thought I was going crazy. It's like circus music meets Alf. The FM track is a lot more tolerable, but I repeat, both are catchy.
What I love about the SMS are games like this. There's never a game that feels just like another, and this is another one of those weird blends of platformer and action RPG, with more of a platformer slant. Definitely not a flawless game, and definitely not the best, but again, it was a unique and fun experience. Glad I played this one!
Oh, and the ending...yes! It had been awhile since I had experienced any ending as motivational and all out metaphysical as the finale for the great Enduro Racer, but man, this one comes close. If I saw this as a kid (which I never would have, since the game is fricken impossible) I probably would have designed a cure for cancer at this point in my life. Seriously, though, I'd love to see a kid's reaction. SEGA pulled a great bait and switch with this game - promoting the fact that this guy is all about money and finding a paradise of riches, but in the end he finds that the riches of the mind are what really matters. For an 8-bit video game, that's pretty deep...

I love it when they strive for a message outside the game that sort of breaks the fourth wall and talks right to the player himself.

Yeah, they certainly don't make it easy...but once you make it past level 8 it's not so bad. The last level, especially, is mostly easy as long as you get a good break on the lion guy.
