First rate choice, guv! (and a stellar introduction to go with it! ) I've been down to London for a few days so haven't had a chance to play it yet this week, but will get stuck in pronto.

Wow, I had genuinely forgotten just how delightful this one is - it's been ages since I played it, and I just popped it in for a quick go, and was still sat here 2 hours later Any fleeting worries of cute platformer GotW overload dissipated within a few seconds, and while it's hard to put much between them, there's something about the level design and overall feel of it that makes me rate this above Castle. Good nuts.

Very glad to see this one, cracking game, I've been thinking about my next choice and had this in mind if no one else got there first.
Enjoy!

Ah, Land of Illusion. With Wonderboy in Monsterland, this is the best title for Master System if you ask me. There's nothing I could complain about this game. A must have for every SMS gamer out there.

Bump. and what a bump it is.. I have lived my life under the illusion (see what I did there) that Castle of Illusion is clearly the best Mickey (best Disney?) game on the system. That was untill Monday evening when I got a sudden strange urge to give Land of Illusion another try, previoulsy I only got through to the 2nd level and switched it off bored - Believing it to pale in comparison to its predecessor. Well I'm glad to say this isnt so after the 2nd or 3rd level this game truly shines, it's amazing! it's now in my top 5. There is so many great ideas that i have seen copied in much newer platform games like Super Paper Mario and New Super Mario Bros, i'l let you play it through to see what i mean. This game really does set a high standerd for platformers on the system , I just wish it started sooner in the game, the first couple of levels are quite dull, and the trouble is when you have so many games in your collection you dont offten give games a chance if they fail to inspire in the first 10 - 20 minutes. The last level is truly excellent, you have 3 routs to choose from and each is quite difficult at first and all very different. If I could change somthing I'd make it essential to have to do all three routes to progress as there all fun to play through. Unlike Castle of Illusion it only has 1 final boss, but it's fairly tough, changing its tacticks/ attack after every 2 hits you can get in. some of the earlyer boss's in the game are too easy imo (if you dont use the black background then you can read that anyway, sorry) Ive now completed the game, or be it with only 5 stars - where the hell are the other 7 or 9!?! (cant rememebr how many you need?). It took me a good few hours to get through and I'd say it's quite a bit tougher than Castle of Illusion, especially if your trying to find all those stars aswell! I'm not sure the Graphics are quite as nice as Castle but there not far off, they are definitely very good. I also prefer the music on Castle, but this might be a nostalgia thing? Anyway, if you are at all a fan of Castle of Illusion and like me you thought Land of Illusion was just a weak cash in then please please give it some of your time, it won't dissapoint. And if any of you have some kind of guide as to where all them stars are can you post or PM me the link

Been awhile since I played this one. I played them all through when I first did it, awhile ago. I remember the stars taking awhile, I remember a tricky one being up the side of a wall in a castle or something. I need to check it out again.

I remember that one, I think it's befor you get your climbing ability.. maybe thats the key, going back to the earlyer rounds with all your abilities. I'm going to attempt to locate them all and post a guide for anyone who's interested..

This has always been one of my favourite SMS games, great fun, nice graphics and reasonably challenging.

Well it does borrow heavily from Super Mario World and Wonder Boy/Metroid but it does it really well so it doesn' come off as simply copying those games. The game is one of my favs for SMS, just behind Wonder Boy 3: Dragons Trap.
I agree about the first couple of levels being a bit dull but keep in mind the game was made for kids, they're probably made that way to let you learn how the game works.
The graphics are definitely better than in CoI, better use of colors and more advanced shading on everything. Compare the giant vine or sand castle levels to anything in Castle. Musically I think both games sound rather tinny and kiddy but I still prefer Illusion somewhat. The sand castle theme is great.
