The game I have chosen is Golden Axe WarriorCover & Story GameplayThis game is very close to Zelda with a Golden Axe Theme. Characters from the original Golden Axe such as Death Adder, Gilius Thunderhead and Tyris Flare are featured along with the respective magics of the heroes: earth, fire & thunder. There is a bit of confusion to me whether the character that the gamer plays is Tarik or Ax Battler or whether the knight in the mountians who gives you the earth magid is Tarik or Ax Battler. Golden Axe Warrior has an overhead view and the gamer controls a knight who must fight his way through 3 continents and 10 labyrinths in the quest to defeat the evil Death Adder. Throughout the continents there are 9 labryinths which each contain one of the magic chystals. Only after collecting all 9 Chrystals can the gamer proceed to the final labryinth and find the Golden Axe for the showdown with Death Adder. In each labryinth there is also a treasure chest which contains items such as the Battle Axe and the Canoe. There are also treasure chest to be found in hidden rooms throughout the continent which are usually under trees or rocks. GraphicsThe graphics are of a very high standard, well detailed and easy on the eye. MusicThe music is excellent and highly addictive to listen to. There is also the legendary Golden Axe tune when you meet one of the heroes form the original game. Why this game is greatI believe this game is great because of it's originality and it's storng golden axe theme. The main thing for me about Golden Axe Warrior is its addictiveness because it is a challenging game that can take a while to complete which means you play it non stop. Even after you have completed it you will keeep coming back to it.

Very Cool Game. I have played this game so much. I love going through all the dungeons and getting the treasure, but not killing the boss (except dungeon 5) so i can come back later and kick some bum-bum. The first boss is very easy with the flame sword. Everyone compares this to zelda, but this beats the original without every breaking a sweat.

Excellent game, I was so happy to pick it up, even though it cost me around $50 for a complete copy. I was supposed to get a copy in the mail for a trade from Ranmafan, but we all know that he mysteriously disappeared after not sending a few games to people. Anyway, this is simply an excellent game. Fans of The Legend of Zelda will be right at home with this one. I haven't gotten the chance to play it the entire way through and I don't believe a proper review can be given without doing so, but just popping it in and playing it for a few minutes says enough. It's well organized, programmed, and everything. The music is spectacular, the graphics are wonderful, it's just a great game, as well as one of the most difficult NTSC releases to find.

I'm a massive Zelda fan, A link to the past on the snes has to be one of the greatest games of all time!! I'm also a massive Golden axe fan,i'm even finding myself going back to Golden axe 3 even though it's frustrating and has rubbish graphics. Mixing these two games together surely must be a recipe for a good game,.....i'm off to go find out.

Great choice of game. I actually bought this game when it was first released. I saw a review in a magazine and it was given an overall score of 45%. I'm glad I ignored that though or else I'd have missed out on it.
It has been ages since I played it and the furthest I ever got was getting about 6 or 7 crystals but I have started it again and I am stuck at the moment trying to find the shop where I can buy a shield for 250 horns so that I can explore the northern regions. I can't remember where it is, can anyone tell me?

My favorite Spanish publication "Hobby Consolas" rated Master of Darkness has the worst SMS game ever produced for several years... at the time their opinion was almost law to me... but when i bought the game i couldnĀ“t believe that they made such a stupid affirmation for sooo long!!!

to get the knights shield go to the screen next to the first labryinth (the one with the save cave) and go as far as you can downwards, then as far as you can right. there is a screen with a dock that you can use the ship off and a staircase, i think this is the shop with the knights shield, it might be next to that screen. I hope thats right...

stevenma- The character in the moutains is ax battler. So does that mean you play the part of Tarik?I haven't got the instructions to this one.
Game character
Golden axe (ms) Tarik Golden axe (md) Ax-battler (mother killed by Deathadder) Ax-battler (gg) Ax-battler ? Golden axe 2 (md) Ax-battler Golden axe 3 (md) Ax-battler ? Golden axe warrior(ms) Tarik ?
(Ax-battler is in the mountains and gives you the earth magic, and his sister not mother was killed by Death adder)
Is Tarik an exclusive sms character?

Another great game, but work & family commitments this week have meant I've not been able to have more than a very brief go. I tried to pick up from the save game I've had for a couple of years, but couldn't remember where I had or hadn't already been. Another to return to at that mystical point in the future when I've got time to properly play everything...

An Excellent game, but RPGs are not best-suited I think to the Game of the Week - time-consuming, too involving, and sometimes (dare I say it?) more than a bit boring. At least this, like a couple of other great master system adventure games, is full of charm and atmosphere - I generally dislike anything to do RPGs, with a vengeance (have you ever seen some of the PC stuff on the internet? Ultima Online and what have you? Honestly, it's a bit scary - have a look. They actually store, and index "episodes" of what's gone on in the game [like conversations, "battles", etc], as if it were a favourite TV show or something! Seriously messed-up). But if you can afford the time, you can really get into this. Like the great Psychofox from Week 10, it's another well-known, well-loved sms game, and hopefully this might've introduced a few more people to it. Maybe we could look to the less well-known games now, that most of us may have forgotten.
