By the way, punk was a complete joke, Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols was an Art History major who created it to be a new type of art. That's hardly accurate either, Stan. It was Malcolm McLaren's 'art-project' (if you believe his own revisionist bollocks), John Lydon just happened to be the petulant brat/subversive genius/foolish puppet(*) at the centre of it all. For the definitive story on the London Punk scene, you can't go wrong with Jon Savage's 'England's Dreaming'. (*delete as appropriate)

For the definitive story on the London Punk scene, you can't go wrong with Jon Savage's 'England's Dreaming' Class book, that. He contributed some fantastic liner notes for Joy Division's 'Heart and Soul' collection. Speaking of which, I got my original Factory print of 'Unknown Pleasures' this morning - sent shivers down my spine when I played it

hay ive only just read this thread and i am with insomniac on this one
greenday know there stuff and as i think there new single is ok but it is nothing compared with some of there early stuff and i have also heard some of billy's stuff on pirate tapes and demos and the guy has a lot of talent.
the only thing with green day is that most ppl only know them for certain songs but they go a lot deeper and have some really faeces hot stuff about ,there one of my favourate bands anyway but everyone has there own opinion
