Well, I've made a major decision. I'm going to go on to get a doctorate in Art History. Thank you, thank you. It's a big deal, but basically I've come to realize that a BA in this country is completely worthless anymore, plus I've been meaning to do something better. Now is the time and SMS will come with me!!!!!!!

Surely it's only a matter of time before video games are recognized as a fully fledged art form. Then you could get a doctorate in post-Segaism and the Old Masters (see what I did there?)

Don't even get me started man. That's the kind of attitude that needs altered. Art is central to human existence. Art anymore is s h i t, I agree, but a study of the history of Art displays certain segments of human life that cannot be otherwise understood with simple biological sketches or what not. Transy, you have the mind of a true poet. I love it.

See that? Everything fits together. It's a huge circle with importance coming from everywhere.

p.s. - some would say there has been lifesaving art. Did you know that it wasn't just books they burned it nazi Germany? Art-appreciating cultures allow sites like this to thrive. Yeah, art criticism is mainly pretensious b u l l s h i t, but extreme philistinism can cause much more damage. look at the cultural hangover the former Soviet states are suffering. The games we love were created by bona fide artists, because it would not be allowed in a less free, expressive society. How many anti-communist and anti-fascist overtones are there in so many vintage games? Dr. Robotnik, anyone? Dr. Robotnik's Gulag experiment camp more like

HAhahaha, yes. We are still feeling that cultural hangover in the states. Everyone still views Russia as "poor" or "crappy" and so forth, not really looking at the culture at all. There is a real wealth of knowledge there. Plus, some people are totally stupid about it. When I went for my interview for my last job, the guy running it said to the other people present, "Stan here has just returned from the Soviet Union." I was like "former Soviet Union." To which he replied, "Oh." Friggen guy is like 50 years old. Did he not catch the whole thing over there?

Tell me Stan, is McCarthy-ism alive and well over there? Do you get the odd suspiscious look when they learn of your background (I'm assuming your family originate from Russia)?

Bob? i presume your joking by this? you make lifesaving drugs thanks to your degree in art history?! that IS impressive!
Stan, all im saying is that from an employment point of view there isnt really much demand for people with an art history degree lol, its not like its a skill that employees look for in every day jobs! so by comparrsion a degree in law is far more valuable than an art history degree.
so anyway tell us what you can do with your doctorate?

I tell you what, I like the Russians - and I'm far from some dirty left wing communist - but it really annoys me when yanks portray them as idiotic baffoons in films.
I've been on the receiving end of this as well of course...
I'm British!

Actually no Russian in my mixed blood, as far as I know. I did get some stares from people that were like "Oh, you went THERE?" And then when I showed them pictures of stuff like a Russian mall they're like "I can't believe they had that stuff there, you must have been in a good part of Russia." Um, not, they're doing much better if you'd pay attention. McCarthyism has sort-of turned into anti-Marxismcarthyism. Lots of talk radio has become right wing, which I enjoy listening to. Anyway, I plan on going into Pre-Columbian art, working at a museum, teaching, or the like. You can do a lot with any doctorate when you get one.
