I do realise this is a slightly rarer game however I believe it's not as rare as some "grail games" available so why are their copies on eBay in the last few weeks going for up to €700. Is it just a case of supply and demand? I still think the Master System doesn't really have any games that are true grails as they are all obtainable but this one seems to be getting silly in price now.
Thoughts?

Funny the price would still be going up, seeing as it's now available on PS4 and Switch (Japan import only, mind) via the Aleste Collection. Perhaps it's a few people selling up as a result of that and there's a lot of pent up collector demand for the game?
It always struck me as something which was valuable not from being rare alone - but because it's also a highly regarded game from a technical perspective (as a shmup and also considering the hardware), so it carries wider appeal whereas the rarer SMS games are only really interesting to full set collectors.

If you've got PS4 or Switch then the compilation is well worth it regardless of whether you're collecting the original games - not just the two SMS games, but the GG ones plus the brand new GG Aleste 3. All with the option to remove slowdown and flicker - I posted a bit more about it here: shinobiman.proboards.com/thread/11065/aleste-power-strike-compilation-switchStill have an attachment to mine, so soz - won't be selling it!

I don't have any proof for this and is more of a pure speculation, but it seems like the Shmup genre (much like the RPG one) in general has more of a hardcore following and the games are more coveted and collected (especially highly regarded games as Transatlantic Foe mentioned) thus less copies in the wild and higher prices.
And it's a part of a larger series of games, so anybody interested in the series would have a reason to check out the game and seeing as it's an SMS exclusive there might be a higher demand than supply.
Don't know how much of an impact the PS4/Switch Japanese collection has, but it would be interesting if the extra interest hikes up the prices. It seems counter-intuitive but it could be the case.

Interested batman, yeah it's definitely harder to find because I think people are holding onto it.
