Question:
I've been offered a Brazilian Master System Evolution (they will ship from Brazil to UK), don't think it will work on my LCD TV but I do have 2 CRTs but does anyone know how to get one running without blowing it (or my house) up?
Thanks,
Oli

Thanks, Oli It’s just a gamble if it will work well in my opinion. I’ve had a number of CRT’s over the years with mixed results on Brazil consoles (PAL-M). Some have no sound and a bad black and white picture.. others have worked perfectly fine. Actually I think my modern LED has worked fine also as more modern TecToy Master Systems as they use RCA, it’s just the RF cables I’ve had mixed results with. Someone with more technical knowledge in this area can probably explain why.

Basically pal-m is a pain in the backside, like worse than ntsc levels of PITA. The system itself is similar specifications to NTSC and actually doesn’t make any excuse to exist when ntsc and pal both existed and were popular. (PAL-M’s specs are similar to NTSC but doesn’t have NTSC compatibility, making it basically annoying)
The crts we have date back to a time when we didn’t need ntsc compatibility, effectively we have pal, so no NTSC or SECAM, plus models were more country specific), these days many tvs are interchangeable, certainly badge wise.
modern sets generally take anything you throw at them, signal wise anyway, if you want to throw rocks at it then, that’s your choice.
What connections does it come with? Personally I would try and get the signal to work on the most modern tv you have, or at least something that will. My retro tv of choice is a nearly 2 decade old Philips lcd which is basically a tv and monitor as it has scart and dvi! It displays anything I have (not brilliantly though)

Luckily I have about 7 or 8 Tvs in the house (I throw nothing away, LOL) so might risk it for a biscuit. Cheers.
