As you might of guessed this would be my pick - this is currently my favourite game, though my new high score is only 131500 which is far from the best, on the high scores thread.  Its a great quickie of a game (well it is for me!). I have been told it's a marmite game but meh  Enjoy   |

Great pick! I love the old throw back choices many members are going with. Always a good game for a quick session as you have said before.
I remember there was a way to get an extra life, but can't remember the exact details...
Something like jumping over the third dog on the first level. I know I could never pull it off. Always died or kicked the dog.
I'm curious what approach you all take to this game. Jump kick primary? Slow going using primarily a low kick? I can't imagine anyone ever punches.

I'm all jump kicks.
Having little room and lot of else to play and because I only have some dozen games, it is my custom to bring out my SMS for about one month every year - that month normally being December.
But with a Club game that I happen to have (and haven't played truly seriously), I'll have to go early this year...

This is one fast, frenetic, crazy game. It's always a nice throwback when the most villainous characters are "punks."

I just got through the first level first time ever! (and I've had the game for 17 years...)
My new high score is 116690
About the extra lives: in the back cover image the player is at round 1 (near end as there's the dogs and the score fits to that), but they have gotten 2 extra lives?
Is there something else or can the dog thing (according SMS Power "Fight the first three bull dogs, then jump over the fourth dog. Kick it from behind to collect an extra life.") be used multiple times, do the dogs come again?

Apparently those ball throwers around halfway second round are the limit of my skills.
I happen to have pair of old joysticks, but nothing to use them with. SMS is in fact the only thing to plug them in and only one button works, making them unusable in almost every game... except My Hero. However playing with them instead of pad does make the game even harder.

I've been enjoying playing this game, although I'm terrible at it. There's some elements of randomness that make it slightly unfair... it seems the bouncing spike balls have slightly varied paths where they will land, making them hard to get past.
Out of curiosity I fired up the arcade version in MAME and one interesting difference is that you can rescue another hero (dressed in pink) who will follow a couple of steps behind you and match your moves.

Oh wow. I really hated this, sorry! It's garish to look at, listen to and indeed play.
Punch is entirely useless and jump kick not much better, given how poor the collision detection is. You're just timing the jump kick button between left and right the whole time, to match what runs in at you.
Definitely makes me glad video games evolved from this sort of simplistic game. There's a level of straightforward fun to be had, but the collision detection entirely ruins it for me.
