Sorry man... I've heard of it working for a 50 or 60 Hz display, but then I saw your comments in the other thread about 100 Hz displays, so I don't know. Usually if I provide some kind of wrong answer, someone comes along and provides the correct information soon after. So here goes: try turning your TV on its side.
As for me, I've been stymied by the cruel difficulty spike in level 2 and I'm ready to hold the Light Phaser within 3 inches of the screen. Even that seems like it's going to be difficult as there are so many enemies all of a sudden.

Once you get the special weapon pickup from the first guy you rescue, ignore the red enemies - they can't hurt you. Should help with taking out the white regular guys. If you struggle with the mines, shoot your medic to dizzy him - gives you a few seconds to clean up before he starts moving again.
It might also help to practice your aim in stage one - and by aim, I mean relative movement you need to get around the screen. Don't actually aim down the sight or anything. Try it until you can hit anywhere on screen without missing, helps a lot with stage 2 and 4. It's practically muscle memory for me, the amount of time I spent playing this game and Operation Wolf when I was about 11!

This is a excellent choice! This is a great little game that often gets overlooked. It's quite unique for a light phaser game and makes for some frantic action. Great tips Transatlantic Foe

I had one TV that worked properly with LP only with brightness and contrast set to max. So sometimes it can help.
In theory Rescue Mission should be a game I like. I only ever had Safari Hunt/Marksman Shooting/Trap Shooting for LP and Marksman Shooting was my preferred game of those. So Rescue Mission has that trigger happy unlimited ammo style going for it. Also I've always hoped there would be more complicated light gun games, a bit different ones that would try to go beyond "shoot the targets".
But practically, I think Rescue Mission would've frustrated the hell out of me.

I think that's the only "shoot at humans" light gun game that isn't banned here in Germany because everything else is including MS games like Rambo 3 and Operation Wolf which is interesting, since the game basically screams "Banned on List A" at you.
It's a fun game, nice cute graphics and the gameplay still holds up since it looks to me like a 2D Light Gun version of the Guardian Angle mini game of Saints Row basically (where i wich a Light Gun was possible)

A bit Late to this thread, but what a cool game. I didn't have the light phaser as a kid, but got one just over a year ago at the retro games fair in Leeds, with Operation wolf, standard. A bit later I got Space gun, which is brilliant, and a couple of months ago, Rescue Mission. I was happy with it before even trying it as the condition was like brand new, like seriously never been used. Playing it for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised as it wasn't like the other LP games, unique as some others have said. The kids also tried it out, but they wasn't so cheerful about it to start with, they're Space Gun fans, but after figuring it out a bit, started to enjoy it too. For anyone with a LP and compatible TV, this should be in your collection. There's enough on ebay to go around, and decent prices too. Go get one.

First of all this is a great game to plug in and play as it is beautifully presented and absolutely well drawn and good animated as well.
As for tv's..... I have a Toshiba 100hz crt and none of the master system light games work with the gun. However I have a an bush 28inch 50hz/60hz and it works fine on that
