Platformers never really were my thing, but if I'd gotten this 25 years ago, I bet I would've given a good shot at finishing it. Now I'm just going to cheat with emulator save... Cheating is lame and you don't really need to in the game, unless you really don't know where all the hidden money spots are, then a money cheat could be hand. Otherwise, the game is really easy except for the labyrinth and the boss fight. I just played it once again and finished it in just a little over 30 minutes (apparently the world record is 17 minutes...crazy)

Lol

Great pick! I've always liked this game. The hack and slash / platforming action with some slight RPG and puzzle elements thrown in make it very playable. The graphics, music and controls are all solid. I'd say it was quite a challenging game, there's no way I would have completed it as a youngster and even to this day some sections are hard as nails (namely, the final castle's maze and rising platforms).
I've started a project to locate every secret spot (for money, timer and hearts) so if anyone is interested I can post that when I'm done.
Overall this a great game. It's not quite as polished as Wonder Boy III but it's still a very worthy game in the series. I'd highly recommend anyone to play it.

I think i've found every bag/ coin but a map of where everything is would be fantastic. I think the rising platforms are an absolute killer in the maze and one where everyone seems to struggle.

I think you would need to hack the game to find all the coin locations - trial and error is going to miss some out.

Love this! I think i've found every bag/ coin but a map of where everything is would be fantastic. Gamefaqs has maps where most of the money drops are shown, altough some are missing like in Stage 3 before the boss fight, when you jump the correct way down there is a money drop and in round 5 on the left side of the well you have to jump into is also a money drop that is missing. There are also some other ways to get money, like fightign the enemy in Stage 4 twice: Go to him, kick his ass, drop down into the water afterwards and then enter the boss fight again. Altough i have to say if you have some skill you can run through this game rather easily with just the minimum of equipment: Basic shield (or maybe second tier so you don't get moved back when an arrow hits you), basic armor if you want it, tier 2 shoes are good enough to make all jumps easily, i found that the legendary boots are more of a problem than a help (you sometimes jump to high making the screen switch which is a pain in the ass in the moving platform part at the end) and of course if you want an easy time with the dragon, collect as many thunder flashes as possible. I think the rising platforms are an absolute killer in the maze and one where everyone seems to struggle. I think it's made unnecessarily difficult thanks to the horrible gamepads. Yesterday i played it on my PC and with my xbox360 pad (analogue stick being used) it was a whole lot easier than on the Master System with the regular game pads. It's definitely the most challenging part in the game though i would say.

I´m using the Competition Pro Pads and they are very good. They feel like the original pads, but are super responsive. The best controllers you can use by playing on the Master System It´s always funny when people take the controller for the first time.. the weird faces haha xD

You can also do the same on the level where you play the flute.

The old Sidewinder pad I have for my PC isn't very good for platformers.

OK, I'm a little (=very) late to the party, but I finally got a couple of hours free last night and started getting back into the game club. First time playing this game and I'm enjoying it so far - I haven't got very far yet, but I've got a feeling I might stick at it for a while.
