I live in the US and was thinking of ordering a bunch of British shows on DVD that aren't available here from Amazon.uk, and I wanted to know how reliable they are or if my stuff is likely to arrived damaged.
Over the past 6 months, I have had countless problems with buying things from the American Amazon (damaged items, bad customer service, etc) and I wanted to know if the UK was any better.

Probably worth checking if you can actually play PAL UK region DVD's first. Your experience with Amazon can vary a lot depending on if you're actually buying from them or an independant seller on an amazon listing. Amazon themselves use minimal packaging, but tend to be good if you have any issues.

Your always welcome to use my UK address Tap and I'd be happy to repackage everything for you if needed.

Never had issues with Amazon internally in the UK or US stuff I've ordered through marketplace sellers.

Well I use amazon a fair bit, we have amazon prime until 22nd july if you want anything sending over.
Amazon themselves are decent enough, I have used one of the marketplace sellers loads, they are particularly good.
Which shows do you want? I can see if anywhere else has them cheaper?

I've been meaning to buy Blake's 7 and a bunch of classic Dr Who. Blake's 7 was never released here, and a lot of the US Dr Who DVDs are out of print and go for absurd prices. My computer can handle PAL DVDs, so that shouldn't be a problem. I've had my share of problems with third party sellers over the years, so now I try to only buy items directly from Amazon these days, but I have been having a really long run of bad luck with them recently. I think a big part of it has been the switch to those terrible Eco Cases: www.examiner.com/images/blog/EXID8455/images/ecofriendly.jpgDo DVDs come in those terrible things over there?

Never seen one of those cases and I'm in the UK. All the DVD's I've ever bought have come in the standard case.

Not seen any of those eco cases.
Blake's 7 was digipak for the original run but I haven't seen them in shops for ages so they may have re-released in a standard plastic case. I never bought them because I already had them all on VHS!

Bought plenty of DVDs from Amazon (both from over here and the US). Damage is the exception rather than the rule. VLC Media Player can be used to play DVDs from all regions. It bypasses the region lock on your DVD drive: www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

I have always received amazing customer service from Amazon. Just be careful that if you do buy anything from a third party on Amazon that they have good feedback. I try to buy mainly from Amazon rather than the third party sellers, as I tend to have a better service.
