It's been a while but I've discovered a new cheat Cheat ModeAt the title screen (when selecting the number of players), press Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right During gameplay, pause the game and use one of the following commands: Up | Turn invincibility off
| Down | Turn invincibility on
| Left | Decrease number of lives
| Right | Increase number of lives
| 1 + Left
| Restart current level
| 1 + Down
| Warp to boss
| 1 + Right
| Skip level
| 2 + Left
| Change secondary weapon
| 2 + Right
| Increase shot power

My usual methods. Just worked out this has been unknown for like 27 years, could that be some sort of record?

I still think your "usual methods" are kind of crazy... Did you check anything in code to see if there are any other pause button combinations? It seems odd that 1+Up is missing, for example.
I expect there's a bunch of Colecovision games with undiscovered cheats in them, I'm not sure if button sequence cheats were even a thing in the VCS days...

or infinite lives?
Is it true that cheats were designed to allow games to be tested? I remember reading something about it in 1990-something but obviously the information that we know now is infinitely more than whatever was in whichever magazines we could afford 25+ years ago and what we can remember that we read back then

They can be a testing thing, but another factor is that it can help to increase interest a few months down the line to release your cheats to magazines, getting your game's name in print at a time when it might otherwise not be there. It can also help to get better reviews if the reviewers can view later parts of the game easily.

I mean I knew there had to be a cheat system for this game to fully test it because it's so difficult when you lose your power-ups later.

I looked through the code, unfortunately there's no other button presses.
