I'm slightly confused at when exactly the polls close, it says 12:00am 26th Dec, which is possibly in just over an hours time.

Or at least your hard work that went into creating it. I'd suggest wainting until the end of the day - 12:00 Am of the 27th GMT. Just to allow any last minute voters. But again it's up to you.

I'd set it to auto lock at 12am.. I just wasnt 100% sure when that would be. However all the polls are now locked. I'll sort out the next stage over the next couple of days

49 games reached stage 2 due to 4 tie situations.
There were 1169 votes cast in total. Hopefully some of your favourites got through to stage 2.
I've made an executive decision to adapt stage 2 to fit the number of games that progressed by having 7 groups of 7 games. As the groups are smaller I have also decided to have just one vote per group, so make it count!
This means the grand final will consist of just 7 games (unless there are further tie situations in which case more may progress).
Hope everybody who has voted so far doesn't mind these changes. My thinking was that 2 votes per stage was too many when there are only 7 games to pick from... then a final with 14 and just 1 vote each would be a difficult choice for people.

All Stage 2 polls are now open and not an Alex Kidd or Wonder Boy in sight! (although our little blue friend makes a couple of appearances!).
I think a few of these groups are going to be a challenge for me to pick a fave and I dread to think what the final is going to be like!

Suggestion: how about 10 game final where besides the 7 group winners there'll be 3 games that get most votes without winning their group? (Though there may well be a tie or two anyway, but that would work fine with this.) Seem kind of brutal that only group winner gets to final. While there's the logic that game losing to another in Stage 2 likely loses in final too, it's still a different situation, with different opponents and division of votes.

Dude, don't make it harder then it is already going to be! I'm struggling to make choices now. Deciding best of 7 will require some head scratching and/or heart breaking... only gets tougher if it is best of ten (But as you said this may be the case with ties advancing to the final round anyways.

Voted for all groups Like Rastanfarian, I had voted for almost all the games on round 1 so some really tough choices to be made there

Wow, a lot of tough choices this time around. But all good choices. When does this round of voting end?

Wow, a lot of tough choices this time around. But all good choices. When does this round of voting end? I've put the closing date as next Saturday lunch time (uk time). Giving people just under 2 weeks to vote. The first stage had people voting right up until near the end. The final will also be about 2 weeks ish, maybe slightly more as I'll be in Poland that weekend. We should be able to crown the winner before the end of January though. Then I may do a poll on what kind of tournament people would like to see next... Japanese box art, worst box art or something else all together..

I'd be really into a Japanese box art tournament. However, I've never been a fan of "worst" contests. I think there's already a lot of negativity surrounding SMS box art and don't really want to reinforce the idea that it's a system with bad box designs. To me the only truly bad box art is Secret Command.

To me the only truly bad box art is Secret Command. I like the idea of Japanese box art tournament too. I agree we should not perpetuate the stereotype of poor box art for the SMS, but I would like to see that contest happen anyways. I don't expect any further damage to the SMS reputation to come from this as we are a small community. Secret Command is truly bad, but American Pro Football may be worse. I understand why Sega decided to rename both Reggie Jackson Baseball and Walter Payton Football, but come on... they could have done something more appropriate for American Football; similar to cover art of American Pro Baseball.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say if a JAP artwork contest should happen, Miracle Warriors and Spellcaster (or whatever the Japanese name is) will make the final round. Both of them are awesome IMO.

That's an interesting point, Rastanfarian. Secret Command's artwork is bad in the sense of being technically inept. American Pro Football's art is bad in the sense that it seems like an insult!
