What's a game you've completely changed your mind on over the years?
It can either be something you absolutely hated at first and then came to love, or vice versa.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs comes to mind. I probably never gave it a fair chance thinking the Tec Toy exclusives were kind of sub-par.
There have been other examples of games that I never liked when I played them on emulators but that have since grown on me when I got them on physical cartridges and "forced" myself to actually give them a chance.

Enduro Racer. As a kid, I was so disappointed - just by looking at the screenshots - that Sega opted to completely change the perspective of the game. They had made quite nice adaptations of Out Run and Hang On, so I didn't understand why they didn't attempt a behind-the-bike perspective like in the arcade original Enduro Racer. It was only in recent years that I gave the game a fair chance, and discovered its charm and surprising depth. Later I discovered that the Japanese version has twice as many courses, which is the icing on the cake. SMS Enduro Racer is awesome!

Home Alone. I started from the natural default position of assuming it's crap, substantiated by playing it for five minutes. Then, some years ago, I played through it and discovered it's a charming and unique time attack puzzle platformer with some quirky control mechanics that kind of make sense, promoting the more fun parts and making the least helpful part (walking up and down stairs) the most annoying too. Then, more recently I tried it again, and it's dreadful again. I can't control this game and it sucks.

The Ninja - not exactly love at first sight. When I first played it, the graphics and sound seemed very dated and I kept getting killed. These days I think it's one of the best games on the system.
I was always intrigued by the really bad reviews Home Alone got (Sega Power gave the Game Gear version 9%, Mega Drive got 18%) and back in the day I rented the MD version and quite enjoyed playing it. I've said this before but one of the things I like about HA is that they actually made a game that reflects the plot of the film instead of making yet another 2D platform game.

Land of Illusion. Back in the day I rented it from the video shop and really didnt enjoy it after having played Castle of Illusion so much. I only played through the section with trees and snakes and didnt go back to it again, It just somehow didnt click with me at the time.
A couple years ago I decided to give it another try and completed it, really excellent game and if it wasnt for the nostalgia factor I would say it's as good as Castle of Illusion.

Gain Ground was a game I never played growing up and never gave much attention when I got back into retro again. I'm sure I tried it for a minute and thought 'this is boring'. It was only recently when I was going through games to include in one of my quizzes that I sat down and gave this a good go. Like a lot of things, once you put some time in and get into it, it's pretty enjoyable. I love the variety of characters and levels along with the strategic element.

Cyborg Shinobi. As a kid, we were huge fans of shinobi so my brother bought the game and I actually pretty liked it ! We already had a megadrive by the time (and played sms games with the master system converter) so I was used to 16-bits graphics ^^ I remember playing it for hours and hours and hours and finishing it in, like, two months time.
Played again this year. What a crappy game hahaha ! The controls are just terrible, graphics are, like, mwokay. I still think the music is cool, though.

The exact same thing happened to me to. I loved Castle of Illusion, so i couldn't be any happier to get the sequel and then it was just....meh. Somehow i thought it was just bad, never played beyond the first level though. Something about it was really off-putting. A couple years later i re-visit it and immediately started to like it a lot.
