Ryuichi Nishizawa is working on a brand new Wonder Boy game called Monster Boy! The game will be a modern adaption to the series made by Game Atelier USA. Sega still holds the rights to the name Wonder Boy, so the game will be called Monster Boy. It´s an official part of the series though. The graphics are amazing and you can see that it´s a Wonder Boy game by the first look at it. It will be released for PC, Playstation 4, Wii U and some more. Here it goes to the game´s website: www.monsterboy.comScreenshots: Awesome, right?

I thought he couldn't get the rights to Wonderboy so its only a spiritual sequel? A bit like what Garriot is doing with his new Ultima game.

lorf They cannot use the name Wonder Boy but they still want it to be as an official sequel..^^ It´s made by the former chief programmer from West0ne, Ryuichi Nishizawa @marc35 It seems it will be released this year. This game will be the reason for me to finally get a Wii U xD I added the link to the game´s website to the first post. Take a look at their blog!

Somehow I'm more interested in meeting this "Wizard of Booze", rather than Monster Boy

"Forgot" about this game as it's been rather quiet for a while after their kickstarter debut that got pulled because they found a publisher. Thanks for the reminder, I can follow their development blog now It might even force me to buy a PS4 earlier then expected if they will release the game this year!

"Sorry friends, we won't make it in 2015. :/ Monster Boy needs more time and we agreed to give it the polishing it deserves. This means the release has to move to 2016.
Here's a new screenshot from the game. What a spooky place! We target Q1 2016 now and the team is working hard on creating the game we all want to play so badly. It will be great!
We also changed the subtitle. After much criticism on our previous choice 'Wizard of Booze'. The games subtitle is now 'Cursed Kingdom'. It fits nicely and we hope this is something more convenient for everybody :-)
What do you think?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it´s okay to take the time to polish the game even more! The new title sounds good, but I don´t understand the criticism of the former subititle. ´The Wizard of Booze´ sounds very unique compared to "The Cursed Kingdom". The skeleton looks cool!

Interesting... well, I'm not sure about other places, but here in the US, "booze" is slang for liquor. Was it meant to refer to liquor? Or did they think they had created a fictional word and were unaware of the slang meaning?

Or did they think they had created a fictional word and were unaware of the slang meaning? I think ‘booze‘is pretty much universally the slang for alcohol... most likely the target audience for the game are 30 somethings and the developers probably thought it would be appealing. As a 30 something non Alcoholic i can confirm it was amusing (to me at least)

soera I hope so! I will ask them about a physical release soon. About the Booze-thing: For me as a german, ´Wizard of Booze´ sounds really special and catchy. I am sure the developers are not native UK or US people ^,^

Cool it is happening (I am also working on another Wonder Boy related project myself).
To be fair Mr Nishizawa isn't really involved in the actual development of either projects. That game is made by the team at Game Atelier, it's their game and it is a new game. They obtained a license to use some data that was previously owned by Westone.
I believe they tried to obtain the license for Wonder Boy (and I am also considering it for my project) but it's a probable overwhelming amount of trouble to deal with Sega. So they played it right by putting Nishizawa at the front so they can use some of that Wonder Boy marketing energy without having to deal with the licensing. I am looking forward to the game, I kickstarted it when they first announced it before they changed the scope and title. It's nice that they are putting more time and budget on it too!
