Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not to the SMS - I just wanted to let you know about a small project I've been working on recently that I thought might be of interest to some of you: it's called the Mini System, and it is a simple plug-and-play hardware recreation of the SMS system using modern components: it allows you to play all your games from SD card on your TV! You can read more about it here: reflectionoftheages.com I also created a small video and put it on YouTube, so you can have a quick look how the games play on it. If anybody would be interested in acquiring a Mini System, let me know on the Facebook page: facebook.com/reflectionoftheages . I'm not really selling any of these at the moment, but I could think about starting a small production run, given enough interest. They'd probably be priced at 99EUR, or a bit more, depending on interest. Let me know what you think! - Niek

Start a Kickstarter for this and/or show me some other means of this being legitimate other than a diagram I have no idea how to read and I may be interested. My main issues with your credibility right now is that this right now is too easy of a drop and run once you get -any- amount of money because there's no prototype to speak of, there's no website and right now it's all down on paper... All it would take for you to scam anyone is to delete the Facebook page and then disappear.
While I do really like the idea there's also a LOT of legal issues here concerning copyright and other laws that you might be breaking because right now it's up in the air as to whom owns the rights to anything. Sega probably still owns the copyright to the BIOS on the master system and don't mind emulation at the moment because it's not costing them anything but if they catch wind of something mainstream coming along they'd probably try to sue you for the idea.
On top of that the rights to the games themselves is another legal blackhole because some of the 3rd party companies that created them may not be around anymore either after going into liquidation or being bought out by larger companies that then acquired the rights to those franchises.
Again, I love the idea but it's really something that you'll need to research a lot better if you want to get anywhere with it.

I think if you watch the you tube video it shows the working prototype. I dont think many people will be to bothered about copywrite because everyone on here downloads roms. I think the main problem is the evadrive, alot of people on here have 1, its a modded cart with a memory card that contains all the games. Plug it into your sms and you have every game made and i think they only cost £50...

Ps it looks good on the video, make it HD instead of scart and people may be more interested.

Ah, you may have missed the website: you can find it at reflectionoftheages.com. There is a section called "Pictures" there, which shows a lot of pictures of the system, as well as games running on it, and also a video of the Mini System running. As I already mentioned in my first post, I'm not really selling these at the moment, and I'm not asking or looking for money. It's just a project I've created, that's all All chips have been designed from scratch: no code/designs/roms/anything from Sega was copied, nor from any games publisher. The Mini System allows you to play games from an SD card, so you'd need to own those games yourself. I wouldn't provide those, of course (this is also mentioned on the website at the bottom of the Technical section). Let me know if you have more questions! - Niek

You shouldn't have a problem with it as hardware and legal terms (so long as you aren't providing ROMs) because the hardware is over 20 years old. That's why you get so many Famicom/NES clones as Nintendo can't touch them.

Really nice work! One question, from looking at the screenshots and video... is there a larger border around the screen than with an official SMS?

Very cool project. Would a version with HDMI output be possible? perhaps upscaling the image internally too so modern TV's that struggle with old console resolutions would give a nice clear image. I think if you could do that then you'd have a big advantage over a standard MK1 console and a flash cart, and you could probably sell a lot if you felt inclined to.

Looks very nice. I agree with the HDMI out as well. Not to bothered with the scan lines. I think kickStarter (as mentioned above) is a good idea.
